March i. mre announcement few day ago that the Intercollegiate oratorical con teat would probably be held In Richmond Instead of at Notre Dame University, there Is a story that 'may cause a decided sensation in Indiana college affairs. It was stated here' that Notre Dame was willing to sacrifice the honor of entertaining orators from the representative colleges of eleven States, providing that Richmond would 'permit' the transfer, and Earlham would put up the guarantee. It haa since developed that one of causes leading up to the proposed Is the fact that the oration which Luther Feeger, of Earlham. will deliver at the intercollegiate contest, which won him the honors In the Etate contest at Indianapolis, two weeks ago, is considered by Notre Dame be an attack on Catholicism, and Notre Dame notified Karl ham that the oration: could not be delivered there.

Fee ger's theme is entitled "Augustus Adolphus," and ia at once both a bitter arraignment of 'Catholicism and fan eu losry of the famous leader of the Protestant forces in Germany at the time of religious wars In that country. Feeger Is a Lutheran, and hla oration spares nothing in its criticism of the Catholic church. The authorities at Notre Dame Invited Interstate meeting to the university prior to the Indiana State contest. After this contest, and Feeger's victory, the Earlham faculty was informed by the Notre Dame authorities that while Feeder's oration might be submitted to the judges, it could not be delivered at Notre Dame without a gTeat dt al of amendment, as It was untrue to history and inimical to. the interests of the university.

The Earlham authorities endeavored to Veep the controversy quiet, fearing It would have a bad effect on the coming context, and mlRht make it difficult to procure Judgps for the contest. Earlham it Not Responsible for Them. 'The theme accepted by Feeger was not selected "by Earlham, and the authorities there claim no responsibility for It other than giving it a strong Indorsement from the standpoint of composition, and manner in which it was delivered at State contest. Earlham notified Notre Dame yesterday that it would assume responsibility of entertaining the interstate meeting, and now awaits a reply from that Institution. Feeger is the of the Rev.

Three negro waiters at the Columbia, Club and the Claypool Hotel were sent to the grand Jury to day, on the charge of robbing; an Indiana avenue saloon of many bottles of champagne. Attorney Newton Harding, who defended one of them, attempted to show that negro had a good reputation for honesty, and It resulted In a tilt between Harding and Presecutor Ruckelshaus. Harding replied that he had seen the negro handle money, and blurted out that he had given him tips. "So you violated the club rules by giving tips, did you?" asked the prosecutor. 1Yes, I did, and that's more than you would do," Harding retorted. Small Assets of Indiana Life Co.
