SEPTEMBER 2i. 1W 1984 LOS ANGELES TIMES BOOK PRIZES NOMINATIONS Please enjoy the fifth anniversary of a literary celebration, recognizing 26 remarkable books published between fall of 1983 and fall, 1984. These nominees represent the consensus of 80 book critics, contributors to Book Review who are not staff members of the newspaper. Final choices by the judges, also outside The Times staff, will be announced in the November 4 issue of Book Review.

Meanwhile, each of these nominated books will be reconsidered for its merits in the weeks to come considerable merits when a reader realizes that these selections represent excellence and elegance from a field of 40,000 titles published in the United States each year.
