1 2 Part IllThursday. Sept. 6, 1984 Coe Angeles (Times CHARGERS Steiner is exploring the possibility of Winslow working for one of the TV networks. As of Wednesday morning, the agent had not received a copy of a letter from Sanders, informing Winslow the club may place him on the reserveleft camp list this weekend. That would make him ineligible for the rest of the year.

Steiner said he contemplates no response once the letter is received. "There might be a question as to whether they are entitled to put him on that list," Steiner said. "In view of the fact that he's gone through the proper retirement procedures, for them to refuse to take him back might constitute a violation of his right to work." Steiner reaffirmed his desire to meet with new owner Alex Spanos, but said he had been rebuffed once and did not plan to pursue the matter. It may have been a mistake not to have pressed former owner Gene Klein for a contract settlement earlier this summer, Steiner admitted. Spanos has made it plain he isn't going to give into Winslow's de mands for a $700,000 salary.

He has said agents are wasting their time if they plan to test his resolve. It's clear he doesn't want to have a line of veterans outside his door seeking to renegotiate their own contracts. "Our patience did not pay off," Steiner said. "Maybe we should have been more firm rather than waiting (for Spanos)." As he has done several times, Steiner made the point that he is not some wild-eyed greedy agent trying to get his client more than he deserves. In any organization, there are times to reward people for dedica- tion, loyalty and excellence," Steiner said.

"Nothing is written in stone. People are "We're not asking to open the vault and rob the bank." Charger Notes Offensive tackle Billj Shields, who was traded to Minnesota last month after he left the team in a joint walkout with center Do Mmk, has been returned to the Chargers. They have several options: reactivate him, trade him, waive him or place him on the reserveleft camp list The Chargers were slow in contacting Shields and agent Boh Steim, suggesting that they may not have the 10-year veteran in their plans They're not exactly tripping over themselves to talk to us," Stein said. "Billy has been working out and feels he's stronger and in better condition than when he left camp." Blast, Sockers in Tourney SAN DIEGO-It will be the best in the North American Soccer League against the best in the" Major Indoor Soccer League in the preseason Invitational Tournament to be held at the Sports Arena on Oct 26-27. The Baltimore Blast, the 1983-84 MISL champions, have joined the Sockers in the four-team tournament.

San Diego has won three consecutive indoor titles, including a five-game victory over the Blast in the 1982-83 MISL championship. The remaining two tournament teams have yet to be named. Continued from Page 1 whether to suspend Winslow if he does not return. "There's been no contact and no progress." said Steiner. "He's retired and he feels the pressure has been reduced now that the decision has been made.

He's very firm in that unless he is induced to return. We are pursuing other avenues that would provide income for this year and the rest of his life." -1 MOTOR SHf SHOWKOOMfr TDRRANPF PASADENA i 172M Hawthorne Blvd 179 North HiH Ave SHERMAN OAKS' 4362 Woodman Avi (818)907-9009 blks Ventura fwy on remaining Westside Luxury High-Rise Condominiums (213)370-8533 1 on 40b cm Redondo Bch BIwj 1 Blk So ol 210 Also available at the following locations: WHITT1EH UPLAND Brian's Auto Accessories Classic Motoring e. wwitw bivo Accessories (213)692-7757 M-F 9 30-6 30 'SO E.
