Negro citizens in his article in CoIlier'B, "Both the 1944 political plat; forms, in their pledges to the Negro emu uieu program ior nun, are tragically inadequate, and calls upon them to out law poll taxes and lynching ana' to stop mscrimination against Negroes in our armed forces. This is a voice crying in the' wilderness of political expediency, but a powerful voice that eventually will have to be heeded. ATTORNEY GENERAL RIT DLE, the treat "liberal," told the Drban Tearue conference In Columbus, Ohio, that the protection of Nerro rights "depends ultimately on local public opinion and must oe Developed carefully. sir. Bid die could do much to shape that public opinion if he would prosecute the poll taxers and disfran chlsers on the basis of voluminous evidence submitted to him by the, MAAur.

wny does he not act 7 President Roosevelt told newsmen last week that he did not like lynching such as has occurred in the case of a Fascist prison official in Rome recently. In his concentration on questions of civil liberties in so called lib erated countries, the Presi dent evidently has not had, time to make any comment on the scores of Negro lyn chines that have occurred in the United States since he took office. Not even the infamous blow torch lynching at Duck Hill, drew a peep from him. www CONTRARY to Administration stimulated opinion, the war will not nd this autumn. General De Gaulle has told his followers that the war with Germany cannot be end before next sprinr at the earliest, while the UWi prophesies that the war with Japan will not terminate until two years after Germany is defeated.

Those who expressed the belief that the war would not end until 1948 were no pessimists. www Difficulties are beginning to loom in the path of Allied plans to strip Germany Japan of all machinery for competitive production. There is not enough land in either country to accommodate their huge population as farmers, any more than our population could live by farming alone. Over half of the Axis population is industrial and if we do not let them work in factories we shall have to feed them. Hence the futility of modern war.

ARGENTINA'S PLEDGE to offer no haven for Axis war crim inals was last week's bad news to German and Japanese leaders. It is now reliably reported that they are practicing singing that old Ne gro spiritual "Went to the rock to hide my face Rock cried out 'No hidln place'." However, if thy can stand the heat there Is still one sanctuary left. 4 Gandhi and Jinnah, respective leaders of Hindus and Moslems, have broken off their unity talks. Without some agreement between these two there can be no united front in India. This news was well received by British shareholders and pensioners whose nightmare is Indian independence.

One out of five Britishers would be destitute without Indian masses to exploit. www THE NAACP has arain called for nominations for the Spingarn Medal. Finding a winner should not prove very difficult, considering the large crop of leaders on hand. Father Divine, first to cry "Peace, ifs certainly deserves consideration for voicing the prayers of all huirianity during tne past nve years oi couu war. Tennyson was arrested on charges of immorality. The Tennyson woman in early September went to police and complained that two Negro soldiers had forced her up an alley and raped her. A probe was begun, though Chief 'of Detectives Martin claimed that the woman's story was flimsy from the start. Monday, at the Hotel Marion, a leading white southwest hotel, two officers arrested the white woman and her male companion and the couple was not released until it provided bonds totaling 5400. At a municipal court hearing both pleaded guilty, and both were fined $20 on charges of im morality and ordered to submit to physical examinations.
