RESORT AND ENTERTAINMENT BARGAIN OF THE WORLD Special Advertising Supplement New Las Vegas resort rakes in nothing but guests HftOSlDA RESORT HOTEL CASINO PER NIGHT, PLUS TAX PER PERSON, DOUBLE OCCUPANCY SUNDAY thru THURSDAY Thru 112184 PLUS! 2 for 1 COCKTAIL SHOWS AT "FIRE ICE" CASINO FUNB00K FOR RESERVATIONS Arriving at Alexis Park, you feel as if you should be asking, "What's a luxurious non-gaming resort hotel like this doing in a place like Las Vegas?" And well you should, for, besides being exceptional, it is the exception. In a city where towering high-rise hotels are the norm, Alexis Park sprawls over 19 acres with buildings no more than two stories high though some do have lofts, adding just another half-story and giving the structures a Mediterranean look. Alexis Park actually looks as if it were tailored for Palm Springs or Scottsdale than Las Vegas. Full landscaping, meandering walkways, shade trees, streams, ponds, waterfalls and three swimming pools in grotto-like settings add to the atmosphere of Alexis Park as a Mediterranean-style oasis. Looking back 25 years or more, many of the resorts in Las Vegas were focused not only on gaming, but also on a quality lifestyle.

The grounds were green and beautiful. Alexis Park recaptures those lazy days of the Post-War era. And whether you come to the desert to game, have a vacation, or attend a convention, constantly having to wait for elevators to take you where you want to go tends to raise frustration levels and take the relaxation out of a stay. "I felt Las Vegas needed a luxury resort type of environment," said Robert H. Schul-man, whose Schulman Development Corp.

of Nevada developed the property. The 19 acres of land Alexis Park is built on was acquired Nov. 8, 1983, from the Howard Hughes Trust for $3.6 million. By Jan. 10 of this year the first concrete slabs were being poured.

The construction program for the nearly 400-thou-sand-square-foot resort hotel was geared not only for it to be open in time for the major sum-x mer convention business, but also to be available to travelers on their way to or from Los Angeles to the Olympics. An interesting development is turning out to be the significant number of local Las Vegas residents making advance reservations for get-away weekends at the resort hotel. Schulman felt that what Las Vegas didn't need was another multistory concrete box. Market research conducted by his firm indicated there was a large segment of the public who preferred an alternative to the high-rise hotel and that the low-rise luxury resort hotel with a country club atmosphere would have wide appeal to a cross-seciton of Las Vegas destination travelers. Schulman sees a growing trend in low -rise construction, both in hotels and office space.

"Assuming you can purchase the necessary land at a reasonable price, it is substantially cheaper, on a per-square-foot-basis, than going the high-rise route. Each of the 500 guest rooms at the resort is a suite. These include 66 one-bedroom loft suites and 12 two-story, two-bedroom suites. Some one-bedroom suites, for example, are as large as 1,050 square feet, with two-bedroom suites ranging up to 1,275 square feet. Fireplaces, fully-stocked European bars, vanities in Hollywood lighting, upgraded Kohler bathroom fixtures, noise-reducing insulation, Jacuzzi tubs, satellite TV with the widest selection of channels available in Las Vegas, plus closed -circuit television security and computer controlled fire protection systems are just some of the amenities Alexis Park provides for its guests.

Room rates are competitively priced and range from $70 a night for a mini-suite to $275 a night for a two-bedroom, two-story loft unit. The hotel also emphasizes its full recreational facilities-swimming pools, tennis courts, full health club facilities featuring state-of-the-art exercise equipment, sauna and massage facilities, and a nine-hole professional putting green. Hotel services also include golf privileges at 11 championship golf courses within minutes of the resort hotel, boating on Lake Mead, as well as trips to the Grand Canyon.
