Hilton to open new convention-meeting facility The Las Vegas Hilton has recently completed construction of a 70,000-square-foot convention and meeting facility at the hotel's west end. According to Henri Lewin, executive vice president of Hilton Hotels Corp., the new Hilton Center addition has increased the resort's total floor space by more than 220,000 square feet, giving it more usable space than many convention facilities found in such cities as Denver, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Oakland and San Diego; the Las Vegas resort also has space exceeding the Chicago Expo Center. The Hilton Center, costing nearly $10 million, is located directly adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center, which has 1 million square feet of exhibit and meeting space. The two facilities should make for an ideal combination when large conventions come to Las Vegas, Lewin said. The event scheduled to initiate the new facility is the 1984 COMDEXFall computer trade show to be held in November.
