Willcox as chairman of the Board of Trustees. For seventeen years Mr. Willcox has been a member of the Board of Trustees suid succeeded Mr. Seth Low as chairman in 1916. Both as a member of the Board and as Chairman he proved devoted to the Institute and was at all times devising plans to develop the work and to increase th.j usefulness of the Institute.

In hi: passing the school has lost a sincere and devoted friend as well as an active interested Trustee. His loss will be mourned by graduates and former students all over the country. McGhee, National Secretary of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the first and oldest college fraternity organised 'by Negro students, are of lirnlficant interest to those engaged in.

This now important extra curricula activity among colored students had its beginning in 1906 at Cornell University, fthaea," New York, when a group of Negro college students formed ths Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at that institution. Organised Since 19 OS Howard University is Mother of 10 Org sanations Since 190d, there have been organized by colored college students three other national college fraternities, the Kappa Alpha Psi in 1910, at Indiana University; the Omega Psi Phi in 1911 at Howard University, the first to be organized at a university primarily for Negro student and the Phi Beta Sigma in 1914 at Howard University. In addition to these three college fraternities, there have been organised three national college sororities, the Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first such organization among coloraJ college women, in 190S.

at Howard University: the Delta Sigma Theta in 1913 at Howard University, and the Zeta Phi Beta in 1920 at Howard University. There have lso been organized by colored students three men's professional fraternities, the Chi Delta Mu by medical students; the Tan Delta Sigma by law school students: and the Cusp and Crown by dental students.
