Wood River High Board Discusses 1958-59 Budet WOOD RIVER The Board of Education of High School District 14 Tuesday night scheduled a special session for next Tuesday night to approve the amended 'budget for the school year 1957-58 and set July 23 for a hearing on a tentative cash budget for the fiscal year, July 1, 1958, to June 30, 1959. During Tuesday night's meeting, Board members were presented the tentative budget and discussed it. Only one teaching position Is still vacant, Dr. Eldon Wheeler, assistant principal, reported, that of a full-time girl's physical education instructor. Dr. Wheeler also reported on the achievement tests given to science and mathematics students. In the following science classes the median percentiles were recorded: General science, 69; senior science, 80; physics, 58; chemistry, 81; and biology, 73.

Using the normal of 50 percen- tiJe, Dr. Wheeler said that in general the science program at Wood River High School was "definitely above average," Mathematics department results revealed the following percentiles Seniors (selected group), 97; juniors, 78; sophomores, 75; and freshmen, 69. These test scores disclosed that our mathematics department is in "very, very good shape," Dr. Wheeler said. The Board also approved an additional cost of $341 to an original contract of $2,440 for the replacement of the flooring in the Art Room with vinyl asbestos tile instead of the originally scheduled asphalt tile which would prove unsatisfactory for Art Room use, according to J.

Lions To Equip West Playground At Wood River WOOD RIVER Lions Club members Tuesday voted to join forces with the city and buy suffi dent playground equipment to de velop the West End Playground on Walcott Street. Total cost for the equipment, Including freight charges, wilt be be- $1,200 and 51,300, Irvan Smith, chairman of the club's Civ- Improvement Committee, re lorted. equipment Itself will $1,056.
