B-8 (Tlif Atlanta 3mirnal AND CONSTITl'TION DECEMBER 7, 1 990 tttt MOVIES Baby formula gets warmed over .3 By Steve Murray Film critic The good news is, "Look Who's Talking Too" is less than 90 minutes long. The bad news? It feels so much longer. Celluloid drivel about dribble (and poop and pee-pee), this sequel to last year's film repeats and magnifies the gim- micks that made the original a hit. We start with the now-familiar special-effects assault on an ovum by a band of gung-ho spermatozoa. The egg and sperm in question belong to Mollie (Kirstie Alley), a Manhattan accountant, and James (John Travolta), the cab driver she married in the first installment, who's earning his wings as a private pilot.

Little Mikey (Lome Sussman), now a fully mobile tot, is still getting the voice-over treatment from Bruce Willis. tyke's burbling lips is more disconcerting than cute like a badly dubbed foreign film. Still, the movie might work if it had a plot. Instead, what we get is a series of situations. Mollie's no-good brother (Elias Koteas) moves into the couple's sherbert-shaded apartment long enough to cause Mollie and James to fight.

James moves out, boo-hoo. Mollie pretties herself up to win him back. (Believe it or not, a woman directed and co-wrote this thing.) On the plus side, Ms. Alley shows her flair for comic moments. And Mr.

Travolta is ingratiating, despite his embarrassing dance solo in a nursery to "All Shook Up." Designed to make money, "Look Who's Talking Too" will probably succeed on that level, though it fails on all others. Hey Mikey, hey Julie give us an early Christmas present: Shut up already. FILM REVIEW "Look Who's Talking Too" A baby comedy. Starring John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. Directed by Amy Heckerling.

Rated PG-13 for language and potty jokes. At metro theaters. When baby sister Julie arrives, she's got the voice of Roseanne Barr. (Working overtime in the womb, thanks to a creepy animated fetus doll, Ms. Barr also delivers such knee-slappers as, "Don't you just hate it when you get your head caught in your Besides adjusting to Julie, Mikey has to survive the trials of potty training, advised by squirt-smart pal Eddie (Danny Pringle, voice-over courtesy of Damon Wayans).

With all these disembodied voices, the movie feels like an echo chamber. The juxtaposition of adult wisecracks and a Tri-Star Pictures "Look Who's Talking Too" stars (from left) John Travolta, Megan Milner (with Roseanne Barr's voice), Lome Sussman (with Bruce Willis's voice) and Kirstie Alley. The sequel picks up where the hit movie ends as Mikey (Lome) gets a new sister. Critics finally get a peek at 'Godfather in' From wire reports Movie critics and theater owners in Los Angeles, New York and other cities recently got their first look at the highly anticipated "The Godfather, Part III." Reviewers in New York were critical, complaining that at two hours and 42 minutes the film was too long and lacked a hard edge and keen focus. Its ending, meant to evoke feelings of tragedy, was greeted with laughter.

But critics in L.A. applauded it. Here's what some said about the film scheduled for release Christmas Day: Bob Strauss, film critic at the LA. Daily News: "From talking to people, the only other films that I can remember people being so eager and excited about beforehand were 'Hunt for Red October' and 'Dick I think Tart III' will really satisfy audiences. It's a better movie than any of the three I mentioned." Hershel Sinay, publisher of American Film: "The visual impact was incredible and gave me the sense of being in an opera.

Overall, I thought that director Francis Ford Coppola did a tremendous job and I hope he succeeds." Premiere magazine executive editor Peter Biskind: "I thought it came very, very close to being a great movie, but it was "too long and didn't have a good rhythm. It would have benefited with more editing. It was made under such incredible pressure, it's amazing that it was as good as it was." Michael Medved, co-host of "Sneak Previews," called the film "impressive." "What's astonishing, considering the huge expectations for the film, is that I don't think it's in any way disappointing. It is as brilliant as we've seen on screen this year." Leonard Martin, film critic for "Entertainment Tonight I think it'll be a very successful movie at the box office because I think the allure of 'The Godfather' is still very strong." "Dances With Wolves," Kevin Costner's epic about a Civil War officer's relationship with Sioux Indians, came in a close second in several categories, said Jerry Roberts, a film critic for Copley Newspapers.

"GoodFellas," which features a cast of colorful Mafiosi who kill with a morbid sense of humor, was named best picture, and Mr. Scorsese was tapped as best director. Twenty-eight of the association's 36 print, radio and television film critic members in the Los Angeles area voted.
