CrUOLEE next to Honto's Chinese Restaurant By Chuck Bell Staff Writer For the past 16 weeks, DeKalb County-based television station WVEU (Channel 69) has been offering Atlanta-area residents a locally produced program focused on the automobile industry. The half-hour magazine-format show, called 'The Auto Doctor," is aired on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. and, according to its host, Myron Stein, it has been well-received so far.

Mr. Stein said the latest ratings reports show the program with a one share. That means that at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday one percent of the television sets in use in the metropolitan Atlanta area are tuned to "The Auto Doctor." While that may not sound like much, Mr. Stein said it is a good figure for a specialty program particularly for a speciality program on a UHF channel on Sunday afternoon.

Although the WVEU program has the same name as the radio show Mr. Stein has been doing on WCNN since 1983, the format is very different On radio, The Auto Doctor" is a talk show in which listeners call and describe the problems they're having with their automobiles and Mr. Stein tries to diagnose the cause of the troubles and suggest solutions. On television, 'The Auto Doctor" is very different It features a road test, reports on new automotive products, a trouble-shooting segment and a segment devoted to basic car care which gives car owners hints on simple preventive maintenance that can help to avoid serious problems. Although the format is in many ways similar to such automotive magazines as Car and Driver and Road Track, it doesn't follow exactly in their footsteps.
