Frankie broke away, again the guy grabbed him, held him against the ropes and turned to mouth Invectives at the men across the ring.

From the moment that Co captains Arthur Fauntleroy and Mitchell Whitting ham and quarterback Tim Howard celebrated the pending kick off to hitherto unbeaten Hampton by charging out with clinched fists and recklessly throwing their bodies (sporting jMorgan's scintil lating new silken uniforms of Orange) into the four Inch sea of ooze that buttered the Pirate grid iron here in the rain Saturday. Even the dullest Pirate backer could see that Coach HtXrt'a lads were up and coming for the finest performance of their 1947 season.

The result was that the Hampton colors were trampled in the mud 9 0. Sporting their new uniforms, a new spirit and ambition, the Morgan team held the erstwhile Hamp ton terror to two first downs while grinding out 163 yards on manpower and brutality. By contrast Hampton got only 63 yards and were never closer than 14 yards to the Morgan goal line, that early in the first period. Awful weather, holding down the attendance to a total of 1,800 of the brave, was no deterrent for the victors. After a scoreless first quarter the Bears unleashed a bar rage from their own 37, beginning witn tne tentn play or the second canto and made a shambles of the Hampton left tackle slot.

Mouse traps, boxes, high low blocks, bumps, laterlal leaning, and all the other shin cracking check reins were brought Into play to keep the left tackle door ajar. Brifi htful hit for 13, Rooks got 10. Brooks picked up 5, Brown 2, and Howard 3, to touch the Hampton 27. HAMPTON OUTCLASSED With both teams revealing a marked ability to handle the mud dy ball buttered with slime that forced the officials to keep a con stant flow of toweled ones into the game, the Pirates got their last opportunity early in the third period when Whittlngham touched Casey's punt at the Morgan 47, Stiles recovering for Hampton. The Bears line clamped on the brakes, however, and started another drive of their own.

It hit its peak early in the final neriod with Jim Turpin living up to his All American rating of 1946. His 19 vard blast after taking a shovel lob from Tim Howard moved the Bears to the Pirate 6. Another stand by the big Pirate line staved off another touchdown, but eight playa later after a bad snap from center, Tom Casey was flattened while attempting to punt from behind his own goal line. 1947 gao Soimks Hampton, 9 rv (O) O) (O Va ran RC (O) 4 KcSY'flaffic' I Quick Pass Play Wins for Trojans PETERSBURG. Va. The Vir ginia State College Trojans captured the CIAA swimming laurels in a meet which masqueraded as a football game here last Saturday winning a watery gridiron tussle against the A. and T. suuuogs, 6 0.

The Trojans struck swiftly in the first moments of the second quar ter to grab a six point lead and then put their faith in the kicking toe of Kenny Whitlock. Brother Whltlock's toe proved to be adequate victory insurance, but there were several times when tne scrapping Aggies, employing three standard offensive formations and a few original formation Ideas, seemed destined to reach down through the layer of water and find the Trojan goal line. Paradoxically, the lone scoring play of the gams was a pass, Thompklns to Jolly, for 18 yards. In a downpour of cold rain on a neia wnicn naa aimosi disap peared under a blanket of muddy water, the Trojans relied almost exclusively on Whltlock's kicking to protect a victory margin which was set up by the punting of the same Kenny Whitlock. From the opening of play, Vir ginia State utilised Whltlock's punt ing to gradually gain on the slight ly weaker punts of Aggie Murisi Reid.

On almost every exchange of punts in the scoreless opening frame, Whitlock gained a few yards on Reid until the Trojans worked their way down to the Aggie 28 yard line. It was here that the Trojans struck for the game's lone touch down. Ray Crittendon nabbed '5 yards to the Aggie 28 as the quar ter ended. The Trojans refused' to up. Norris Hite, half pint Trojan full back, hit twice for ZV yards which left the Trojans yard shy of a first down on the Aggie 18 with fourth down coming up.

At this point, the Trojans reached into their bag of tricks and came up with the surprise play of the game. Instead of executing the expected line buck, Joe. Thompklns, Trojan right half, faded and tossed the first pass of the ball game into the arms of "Jungle" Jolly Just behind the Aggie line and Jolly crossed the goal with only one Ag gie laying a slippery finger on him. Jolly, a left end, crossed behind the Aggie line to take this pass on a day when passing was not a recommended procedure. Freeman failed to convert as the Aggie forwards rushed in to block the placement.

A. and T. threatened' several times, putting on a 57 yard sus Morgan kept moving to stack up three more first downs on a surge of 38 yards.
