May 25, 1867 from; THE STUDY Notes and' Quotes GAS 4 Our understanding and knowledge' of our home (our world) is something short of, flawless. So benighted are many of us ad to be certain that the universe in which we live is an accident The Being, the original cause, who brought into existence the "effect" cannot be envisioned as necessary to the continued existence of our originally created (, i We see flawlessness all around us. We are overwhelmed by the Vastness and the orderliness ot our neighboring planets with all the turning upon axes and whirling thorugh orbits in for greater precision than our most famous acrobats in their metic ious circus routines. Circus routines require enormous attention to detail and practice and development over long years of discipline. But our world just happened! "Ok, smart guy," you say, "You claim there is a Being who caused it all, show Him." But I'm not even talking to you, that is, unless you earnestly do wish to see Him.

Millions of believers have a greed with the sacred writer David when he wrote, under inspiration, "Oh, Lord, Thou has searched me, and known me. Whither shall I go from Thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there: if I makeny bed in helL be hold, Thou art there. If I say, surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the dam ness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day. Thou understands mjif thoughts afar Psalm 139.

A Great God He is! So good to know He is concerned with us. Showers us with all His gifts and opportunities to acquaint ourselves to Him. And how often did we hear in other years that a young man would say he was willing to surrender himself to God but he was afraid he "couldn't hold out." And this is our point Christianity not our struggle to be good. E. Stanley Jones, quoted by Rev.

Robert E. Reasey in CHURCH and HOME, May 15, 1967, put it this way, "One of the greatest needs of our day, if not THE greatest need, is for a rediscovery of the Holy Spirit A Holy Spiritless Christianity is a vast whipping up of the. will a tense striving, an exhausting struggle to be good and to do one's duty. With the Holy Spirit everything in Christianity becomes possible, and not only possible, but actual. The Holy Spirit is the applied Edge of Redemption." It is He who takes up residence in each life turned over to Him.

He is the power that transforms lives. There is no legitimate career that is not helped and enriched by His direction. Whatever you are doing now you can do better if you will let Him first have you. He knows all the answers! (This column is sponsored by the Christian Crusaders Class of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Waterloo. Our meeting is 9:30 ajn.
