Acworth, By SUSAN MILSTEIN Rtperltr, CD EXTRA Gail Brewer-Giorgio claims she doesn't know whether the late Elvis Presley is alive or dead. But she's banking the success of her new novel on those Presley fans who believe the King lives. "Orion," authored by Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio, is the story of a fictitious rock 'n' rock star whose life closely parallels Presley's.

But unlike Presley, who died two years ago, Orion fakes his death to escape his smothering fans. Shortly after the novel was written and circulated among Presley's friends and business associates in Nashville, Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio received a mysterious telephone call. "Orion is born today," the voice said. The voice belonged to a masked singer who, like Presley, records on the Sun Records label and whose singing reputedly bears an uncanny resemblance to the voice of Presley.

The coincidence was enough to convince some people that Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio's book was more fact than fiction. Others say it's a shrewd publicity stunt Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio is currently negotioting with Orion and the president of Sun Records, Shelby Singleton, about "Orion" the motion picture, starring Orion, for which she will write the screen play. But the author, who has previously worked in the advertising industry, said they are waiting for "the.

right time" to release the motion picture. "I don't want to compete with myself," Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio said. "When people reui this book and when Orion is known all over, then the uiovie will be wanted. You must create an appetite for it," said Carol Halupke, a Marietta songwriter who has written the musical score for the motion picture.

Though never an avid Presley fan, Mrs. Brewer-; Giorgio was peculiarly shaken by the news of his death. So moved, in fact, that on the very day of his death she embarked on a 54-day writing binge that produced her novel "I had to understand why the whole world was mourning for him. I had to write something full of hope," the 40-year-old author said. During an interview at her East Cobb home, Mrs.1 Brewer-Giorgio described the writing of her novel as "a religious experience." "I'd sit down at the typewriter with a blank piece of paper and the words and ideas just poured out.

It was as if I was a vehicle. I watched the characters develop," she said. "The book had a life of its own." One night, during the early writing stages of the novel Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio had a dream. "In the dream I walked into a darkened theatre packed with people.

I looked up at the sky and stars appeared. Shooting through this universe was a shooting star. A woman screamed in childbirth. I heard this beautiful music. A constellation came forth.

It was Orion. Orion was born," she said emphatically. Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio said as a writer she relies on her "sixth sense" for inspiration and direction. Though she cannot predict the future and thus does not consider herself a psychic, the author describes herself as a "sensitive." Tin a sponge for suggestions and vibrations," she "I cannot imagine any writer or artist not having a very strong psychic sense.

It puts you in touch with all the beautiful vibrations out there in the universe." ''He sounds like Elvis. And he looks like Elvis. "But I never met Elvis so I wouldn't know," she said.

"Even if I did know that he was Elvis I wouldn't tell you." Neither Mrs. Brewer-Giorgio nor Sun Records have said that Presley is alive or that Orion is Presley in disguise. "It's the press and the public that have created that idea," she said. "Although it is a possibility," she added promptly. "Orion" was published by Capricorn Corporation in Atlanta, which Mrs.

Brewer-Giorgio noted, happens to be both Presley's and Orion's astrological sign.
