As the season melted away and West Georgia continued piling indignity upon hapless foes, eyes began shifting to the north. The attraction was Widener University of Chester, Pa, a team that handed West Georgia its first defeat in 23 years. The final was 10-3, coming in last year's Division III South Region championship at Grisham Stadium. After a year that begins to gnaw at you.

There is no denying, in fact, that each Sunday the paper was scanned thoroughly for a sliver of information.
