From 6 a.m.

to midnight, Scott walks the 36th Senatorial District He clutches a "David Scott for Senator" poster in one hand. The other reaches to shake the hand of anyone who will listen. He asks a young women sitting under a shade tree for her vote. She smiles and says, "I don't live in your district" Undaunted, Scott' asks her to "tell your friends about me." Even Scott admits he is conducting a "one-man campaign" managed by his wife, Alfreda Aaron Scott against the formidable Jack Stephens, who has represented the district for 16 years. "I'm forging new ground," Scott said, as he goes from door to door and talks to residents.

The incumbent received endorsements from the Southside Ministerial Association, the Atlanta Association of Educators and various labor groups. Scott has been supported by Salem, Antioch North, Greater Mt Calvary, Solid Rock, Providence, Tabernacle, Mornings-tar, Traveler's Rest, Mt Nebo and Macedonia Baptist churches. "I've got these churches. That's all I've got" said Scott "My strength lies in my record as a representative. I got roads paved.

1 am the man who got jobs for black teenagers when unemployment reached 45 percent I approached Georgia Highway Express, Brown Trucking, General Motors Assembly Plant, Georgia Power, Bank and First National Bank, when it had never been done before." In a district 71 percent black, "Stephens has no business representing that district," Scott said. Tve got to win. I've got no business losing. I'm well-trained and I'm on the board of directors of the Wharton School of Finance. Do you mean to tell me that they (Wharton) see something in me that my constituents can't recognize?" Scott yard signs can be spotted in In-man Park and Midtown, but it appears nothing can check the confidence of incumbent Stephens.

"I am confident my people will return me to the Senate. I've had as many as five opponents and never had a runoff," Stephens said. Stephens sits on the Consumer Affairs Committee and is vice-chairman of the Industry, Labor and Tourism Committee. One state representative, who supports Scott, said Stephens keeps the support of the black community because "he can get things done. But if Scott should get by Stephens, he must face Republican Shelton Martin in the general election.

"It is extremely important that the community and its representative have a good working relationship," he said. "I am a product of the Butler Street YMCA, the Atlanta public schools system and I've worked with Auburn Avenue businessmen." Bolster, 38, is white and has served eight years in the legislature. "It is a surprising race. My opponent has not at-' tacked my record he chooses to ignore it," Bolster said. "This is the only really interracial district in the city.

It could easily be represented by someone black or someone white, but I have worked very hardywith black community leaders," Bolster said. The incumbent is especially proud of legislation that established the Urban Residential Financial Authority where a $30 million bond issue is available to 700 new homeowners for low interest mortgages.
