Collins, 29, the Chicagoan arrested Sept.

16 following an armed robbery, abduction and wild police chase in a stolen van in Polo, pleaded not guilty to all charges here Monday. In his arraignment before Ogle County Associate Judge Alan Cargerman, Collins also requested a jury trial. He is being held in the Ogle County jail under $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear before Circuit Court Judge F. Lawrence Lenz on Oct. 28 for a pre-trial conference.

An Ogle County Grand Jury indicted Collins last Wednesday. Collins is charged with armed robbery, forceable detention, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful restraint and armed violence. Ogle County Sheriff Jerry Brooks said a man wearing a ski mask came into the Polo real estate office of George Smith about 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 and pointed an automatic pistol at Smith and his employe Larry Larinen.

Brooks' report said the masked man demanded money from the two and held Lannen in the office while Smith went to the Polo National Bank to get $5,000. Warned not to tell police by the intruder, Smith tipped off bank officials who notified the sheriff's office in Oregon and the Polo Police Department. On Smith's return with the money, the gunman siezed a van owned by a local business and headed out of town with Smith as his hostage, Brooks said. The van went east from Polo toward Oregon on the Pines Blacktop before turning south on Ridge Road heading for Grand Detour, Brooks' report said. At this point Brooks said police began following the van and Collins was arrested at gunpoint at a road block set up across the Grand Detour bridge on Woolworth 187; Illinois 2.
