THE VILAM fOSTlTlTIO. 10, 1978 0 Billboards, Yellow Jackets And Truck Stops Newsmakers i -urn Powers' Crossroad, just before entering Heard County recently and he told me that Cooksville as a whole was upset with me, saying that I had never heard of the place. I am not saying that Holland was upset with me but he said a petition was being circulated in Cooksville to hang me from the nearest tree and he had signed it three times. WENONA Always stop at the truck stop operated by Lamar Perlis. For the first time I see by the signs.

"Truck Drivers" and "Tourists," that Lamar is practicing discrimination. It's a wonder that somebody hasn't filed suit against Lamar. After all, filing suit is the "in" thing these days. But I know Lamar to be a most discerning man. Personally, I consider Lamar Perlis to be a brave man, permitting both truck drivers and tourists to be in the same building.

After seeing the driving I have today on Interstate 75, it's a wonder that they don't throw food at each other. my office mail with me, most of which is a joy to real I really do appreciate all of you readers telling me where Cooksville is in Heard County. I met Holland Ware at SOUTH GEORGIA Today's dateline is sort of general but I'm on the move this week. By the time you read this I will have struck and disappeared into the dust on the horizon. Today's effort will be an assortment of Georgia vignettes.

and maybe a Harrell vignette or two. SIGNS OF THE TIMES -Poor old Interstate 75 seems to be getting more billboards draped around its neck. Talk about visual pollution! "They" fight for your attention, each one more garish than the other. Since there is no winner in garishness, some commercial establishments resort to repetition. Within a period of a few miles in mid Georgia I have counted over eight billboards hawking items at the same business.

I make it a point not to stop there. I'm sure they miss my business. TOURIST TRAPPED I guide car and trailer into the rest area just south of Forsyth. A lady tourist from the north is "dancing" about her picnic table. I knew of the disco craze, but out here among the pines? Closer inspection revealed that north had met south.

The dancing lady had been speared by a yellow jacket Now she was in retreat Well, she was running in circles to be truthful about it It appeared that the yellow jacket had called up reinforcements. Si At this time of year yellow jackets are especially troublesome, but this year seems to be worse for people and better for yellow jackets than in the past On my last visit north Towns County appeared to have the best crop I've seen in years. I will not suggest treatment for a yellow jacket sting. After all, each person to his own poison. However, I find immediate relief after being stung by gently, ever so gently, brushing the stinger from my skin.

The critical part of the operation is to be sure that you brush the stinger out of your epidermis in exactly the same way it went in. Brush the stinger farther into your person and your person is going to feel more agony. Some people tell you to use meat tenderizer on the sting. I've tried that too. There was some relief but I couldn't over the feeling that I was making myself more palatable to the yellow jackets.

Robertson said the new Continental Broadcasting Network will take over ownership of six radio stations and four TV stations now owned by Christian Broadcasting, based in Vir- ginia Beach. The stations, he said, will form the nucleus of the commercial network, aimed exclusively at "family viewing." The television stations involved are WYAH-TV in mouth, WXNE-TV in Boston, KXTX-TV in Dallas and WANX-! TV in Atlanta. The radio stations are WXRI-FM in Norfolk and WEIV, WOIV, WJIV, WMIV and WBIV, all in upstate New York. Robertson, a minister-businessman whose syndicated, religiously oriented "700 Club" from Christian Broadcasting is aired daily by ISO radio stations and 150 TV stations across the country and 35 TV stations overseas, said Continental Broad- casting will begin a brief nightly news update broadcast Mod-day. Re said he hopes this will expand into a full nightly news- cast, distributed nationwide, by the fall of 1979.

Lance, a close friend and adviser to President Carter, quit because of a controversy over his banking practices before joining the administration. "I hope he will be used in the gov-1 eminent," Mrs. Lance sail "I believe he is too young, too knowledgeable and has had too much of a crash course in gov't eminent and travel and such a background to let it be wasted." She made the remarks on a TV news program in Cincinnati, She said the press was largely responsible for Lance's ouster. Chess Federation To Review Victory The International Chess Federation agreed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Thursday to consider a motion to nullify Anatoly Karpov's final victory over Victor Korchnoi in their recent world championship match in the Philippines.

Swiss delegate Alban Broabeck urged the federation to name a spe-; cial commission to investigate what he called favoritism by Philippine authorities that helped the Soviet champion defeat the Russian defector. Federation president Max Euwe con- vened a meeting of its Central Committee to consider the Swiss complaint, read by Broabeck. The complaint centered on Philippine authorities' failure to prevent Soviet parapsycholo- gist Vladimir Zoukhar from staring at Korchnoi during the final game. Korchnoi claimed Zoukhar's assignment was to hypnotize him. Carter's Off And Running I President Carter, a former cross country runner, has joined the nation's jogging set Dr.
