Atlanta Roswell 993-2400 By JIM ALNUTI Special lo Tht Journal -Constitution The specialty and defensive units of the Clark College Panthers were the keys in a 25-9 win over Lane College Saturday afternoon at Herndon Stadium. Defensive tackles Robert Wright and Jerome White sacked Dragon quarterback Carlton Chance a total of 11 times and were in on many of the tackles in the backfield that held Lane to minus six yards rushing and a total yardage of 63 for the day. Fullback Johnny Richardson led the offense with 97, yards and Marcus Clark added 43 yards. Charles McPherson opened the scoring for the Panthers with a 35-yard field goal with 11:07 left in the first quarter. Clark's defense held, and Gary Dukes returned the ensuing punt 70 yards for Clark's first touchdown of the season.

The point after by McPherson was good as Clark built it's lead to 10-0. With 8:35 left in the first quarter, Richardson capped a 71-yard drive with a one-yard plunge. The extra point was wide, Clark led 16-0. Holding penalties pushed the Panthers inside their own 15, and with 3:59 left, Robert Sturdivant blocked a McPherson punt that Lane recovered on the seven-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Kenny Powell skirted right end for the Dragons' only touchdown.

The point after was good. The second and third quarters were defensive battles that saw neither team reach farther than their own 40-yard lines. Clark scored two points in the third when the Lane punter stepped over the back line of the end zone for a safety. With the score standing 18-7 and 13:57 left in the game, Phillip Golf fielded a punt at midfield and raced down the sidelines for Clark's final score of the afternoon. The point after was good, and Clark led 25-7.

The final score of the day was made when clipping and holding penalties backed the Panthers up to the 11-yard line, and quarterback Ken Standifer dropped too far back to pass and was tackled in the end zone for a Lane safety.
