6-L THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, Saturday, June 14, 1969 Hamilton 'Face' Is a Band We formed a band. It was a major operation. We figured out how much money we would have to cop, and me and Ronnie got this guy Flakes from Michigan, who was Ronnie's friend, to come to New York and sing. I knew Ruthie from Juilliard and I knew she would be great. She had to be forced to play but now she's okay.

But we got evicted on account of about 18 people were living there and we made too much noise. We practiced a lot and after a while Lenny decided that he couldn't sing lead and play bass, so we found Alan and taught him how to play bass. He became pretty strong after a while." So goes the quick summation of the Hamilton Face Band's beginnings, according to Steve Margoshes, HFB's piano player, singer and writer.

The Hamilton Face Band is not a classical band. It is not a soul band. It is not a psychedelic band. It's hard to classify really top talent like HFB. Steve Margoshes is a piano player, singer and writer.

He writes (amd-or co-writes) all of the Hamilton Face Band's ma terial and hopes, along with tha mother members, to put it and keep it together. Ruh Komanoff Is a green-eyed chick drummer. She is also a green-eyed chick classical percussionist, pianist and marimba player in the bargain. Some people discover their talent early. Ruth started writing for the piano at age 4.

Alan Cooper plays most of the bass for Hamilton Face Band. When he's not doing that, he sings and plays trumpet (once simultaneously, but never again). Lenny Laks sings lead, plays trumpet (other horns as well) and bass for the Hamilton Face Band. At first glance you might think he is really Alan Cooper, also of HFB, since both of them do the same things. However, Lenny and Alan do the same The Hamilton Face Band things when the other isn't.
