STRICTLY BUSINESS Cbeatlantajoutnnl AND CONSTITUTION NEWS-VIEWS 7TT" lffi 1 1 Exchange Ending Its Best Year Shares Traded Top 1.1 Billion NEW YORK tfr-In sheer Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1963 Page 10D Corporation Saving Accounts Approved by U.S. Comptroller numbers, this has been the busiest year in the history of the New York Stock Exchange, a spokesman said Tuesday. It tops the record set in 1929, the S. S.

Kresge K-Marts to Open Jan. 1 K-Mart, the discount department store division of the S. S. Kresge has announced its first two Atlanta area stores will open starting Jan. 1.

George McVinnie of Atlanta, K-Mart regional manager, said the initial stores here will lease the facilities on the Bankhead Highway and in Marietta presently occupied by Thrift City, whose leases expire Dec. 31. He said the food markets in the K-Mart stores will open Jan. 1, but that it will take a few weeks to remodel the remaining floor space in the two stores to prepare for general merchandise operations. Noting that these stores mark "only the beginning of our confidence in the Atlanta market," he added, "we are at present completing negotiations for other store locations here.

Nationally, he said, K-Mart has grown from 18 stores in 1962 to 53 this year, and will add 30 more during 1964. year of the big crash. The exchange said that be "Ordinarily," he said, "the president, the principal vice president, and the cashier are executive officers." He said the restrictions on loans should not apply to employes who are given official titles for prestige purposes, for the execution of documents, or for the performance of other "ministerial functions." board of directors, and even with approval the loan may not exceed $2,500. Saxon said an executive officer was one who had both a voice in the formulation of bank policy and responsibility for putting that policy into practice. A person who serves only as a director would not be an executive officer, Saxon said.

fore mid-session Tuesday, with four trading days left in 1963 the number of shares that had changed hands exceeded the total of 1,124,800,410 recorded in 1929. In terms of rapid turnover, however, the 1963 figure doesn't come close to frantic 1929. There "The motion is carried then that we wish everybody a Merry Christmas!" WASHINGTON UB Cnmp-trollcr of the Currency James J. Saxon ruled Tuesday that national banks may accept savings accounts from corporations. He also issued a ruling which would remove restrictions on bank loans to certain types of bank officers.

In the ruling on savings accounts, Saxon said there had been frequent requests for a controller's opinion on the legal basis of a practice which generally has prevented corporations from maintaining savings accounts. He found no such legal bar. He said national banks may accept savings accounts "without regard to whether the funds deposited are to the credit of one or more individuals, or of a corporation, association, or other organization, whether operated for profit or otherwise." Regulations prevent any bank official classed as an "executive officer" from receiving a Joan from his bank unless he receives permission from the You-Kiwiv-Who Gets Special FAA Permit WASHINGTON (UFI)-The Federal Aviation Agency (FAA), which grounded all airline pilots 60 and over, has issued a one-day flying certificate to an overweight oldtimer with a long white beard. Cotton Mixed were only about one billion shares listed for trading then, about one-eighth as many as now, and the 1929 turnover rate was 119 per cent. In 1963, the turnover has been about 15 per cent and in 1962, about 13 per cent.

This year is likely to set a record for average daily volume, with the figure running at 4.6 million shares against the high of 4.3 million set in 1929. The average last year was 3.8 million.
