SUNDAY, JULY 16, 1972 Cj)C fltlonta gottcnat and CO.NSTITUTIO.N 19A Chess Game to Go Ahead Protesters Want Wo Rough Stuff With or Without iscner Saturday Fischer's lawyers proposed to the match committee that Sunday's game be designated the second game while the American Chess Federation appeals the decision to give Thursday's game to Spassky to the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Congress at Skopje, They said Fischer would presumably refuse to turn up for the third game Sunday because the match committee rejected his protest against Schmid's decision to give the second game to the Russian world champion when Fischer refused to play. At a closed door meeting 'MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (UPI) Protest leaders Allen Ginsberg and Jerry Rtibin predicted Saturday there would be massive demonstrations at the Republican National Convention next month but said there was small chance of violence because that would defeat their purpose. The bearded poet and the Yippie leader both veterans of the bloody demonstrations during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago support Democratic presidential candidate George HcGovern this year and be- a Jr Anfivar Vet Calls Charges 'Trumped Up' BAD-BOY FISCHER TURNS ICELAND SOUR REYKJAVIK (UPI) Bobby Fischer may have helped the sales of chess sets in the United States but in Iceland, where chess is taken seriously, he has few if any friends left. In contrast Russian world champion Boris Spassky has never before been more popular with Iceland's 210,000 chess mad inhabitants.

Icelanders are beginning to ask themselves why they bothered to bid for the "chess match of the century," as the Fisch-er-Spassky world championship match has been billed. "If we had known Bobby Fischer well enough we might have thought twice before bidding for the match," said one official of the Icelandic Chess Federation. When the temperamental American failed to show up for the second game Thursday and the judge announced from the stage that he had forfeited the game, the spectators rose and applaudeu. "Send him back to the United States," shouted one voice in English from the gallery. lieve that violence at the Republican convention would only hurt their candidate's chance.

Instead, if they have their way, demonstrators will spend most of their time working on voter registration and cementing the bond they began to forge during the Democratic convention with Miami's senior citizens. Rubin said "plans are being worked out now" for additional protest demonstrations but they will not be disruptive. "The Youth International Party will be organizing massive demonstrations to confront Richard Nixon with the war in Vietnam," Rubin said, predicting that 50,000 to 60,000 protesters would gather here. Rubin, one of the Chicago Seven tried and acquitted after the 1968 Democratic National Convention on charges of conspiring to provoke violence there, refused to disavow disruption as a tactic. "But there is small chance of violence because none of the people in the movement think it would help achieve the goal of ending the war in Vietnam it won't convince the majority of the American people they should vote forMc-Govern, which is very important in my view," he said.

Rubin said violence could erupt, however, if Miami police react with hostility to the demonstrators. "The police didn't have many problems at the Democratic convention because nobody advocated disruption people went to Chicago with plans for disruption. But at the Republican convention they'll have more people and they'll be angrier people," Rubin said. Ginsberg said there were "some young kids, among the Yippies in particular, who want to raise hell at the Republican convention but the consensus is to do something constructive." REYKJAVIK Iceland (UPI) Chief arbiter Lothar Schmid said Saturday night television cameras cannot be removed from the Reykjavik chess hall as American challenger Bobby Fischer has demanded and the third game of the world chess championship will be played Sunday as scheduled. The game will begin even if Fischer is not present, he said.

i r's representative, Fred Cramer, said after meeting with Sohmid and other members of the match governing committee, however, that there was still a possibility of moving Fischer and champion Boris Spassky into a closed room without cameras for at least Sunday's game. He added, however, that he did not know what Fischer would think of this proposal. "I don't think he has thought much about it," Cramer said. Emerging from another meeting with the committee Schmid said, "We can only continue the match under the match rules" which spell out that official cameras for filming will be allowed in the hall. The organizers must guarantee that they are neither visible nor audible.

Schmid ruled out the possibility of removing the cameras, although the Icelandic Chess Federation said it would be prepared to discuss this if there was no other solution. Schmid said the third game, with Fischer holding the black pieces, would begin at 5 p.m. (1 p.m. EDT) Sunday whether Fischer turns up or not. Fischer did not appear for the second game Thursday because he said the cameras distracted him.

The game was awarded to Spassky by default. Spassky won the first game and holds a 24 advantage in the 24-game match. Schmid and other chess officials here said that even if the issue about the television cameras were resolved they were still pessimistic about the possibility of i i the match.
