12 THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, Monday, Jan. 30, 1961 BARON BLASTS SEC BRETHREN Full-Time or Part-Time, Rupp Readies a Defense for Kaiser Vk i knock ourselves out trying against us in Lexington and to stop him. He got 38 we won the game, didn't "This I know though. We're a good team and so is Tech. We both play some competition.

"Mississippi State has moved out front in the conference. And you know why? It's because they concentrate on the conference schedule and nothing else. Hell, we could do real well in the conference all the time if we warmed up against a bunch of teachers' colleges. "We can't go around playing Florence State and Delta State, though. We have to play good teams like North Carolina and St.

Louis, and many others." If Rupp thinks Tech is such a good club, how then does he account for the team's poor conference record? "I said a good club," The Baron answered. "Not a great one. The great teams win the close games. Tech hasn't been doing that." "I'm dead set against it," he said. "And I want to say this.

You might as well call a spade a spade. The only reason these Dixie teams want more SEC games is because they don't want to play against colored boys. "Those silly people at Tulane think they're fooling somebody. They sit down there and talk about they can't play against teams with Negroes. Well, practically the whole Tulane team is from Indiana or some Yankee state, and those boys are used to it.

"They say they won't let 'cm play against Negroes in the state of Louisiana. Then they ought to schedule some games up north in the Big Ten and go up there and face some real clubs. It'd be better than playing Florence State." The Baron excused himself then. "We're going over scouting reports," he said. "Got to figure out a way to beat Georgia Tech." By JACK WILLIAMS Adolph Rupp probably would swap his famous brown suit for the secret on how to stop Roger Kaiser.

But The Baron said Sunday it's ridiculous to think a sore thumb might do the job for him. Old Adolph chuckled like Santa Claus when a reporter told him that Georgia Tech's Kaiser had a badly swollen thumb and may not see action Monday night. "Now let me tell you a sad story," said Rupp. "We left Lickert and Parsons and Jennings at home and I might get a belly ache and miss the game myself. "You pull my leg and I'll pull yours.

I'm not worried about Kaiser. He ll be in there alright." As a matter of fact, the Kentucky coach is so sure that Kaiser will play, he's already mapped the strategy he'll use against the all-America guard. "We're going to let him take his 20 or 30 shots and hit his average," Rupp said. "No use for us to we?" And what exactly does the master coach of the game think about Kaiser? Is he one of the best shooters Kentucky has faced? "Yeh," said Adolph, "one of the best." Is he THE best? "He might be THE best," the coach replied. But enough about Kaiser.

Rupp wanted to talk about his own team. "We ran Tennessee off the court in our last game." he said. "But I can't say that was a turning point for us. We'll Just have to wait and see. "We've been taking examinations and this is our return game here in Atlanta.

Two years ago, we came here right after exams and kicked the hell out of Tech. Last year we came back and got the hell kicked out of us. So I can't say how the exams will affect us. getting warmed up and now the proposed increase in SEC Rupp was really offered his views on games from 14 to 16. cleared 7-44 Saturday in an indoor meot Leningrad. A few hours after learning of Brumel's feat, Thomas climbed over 7-3 in the Boston AA games. So here's how the score stands until the international Amateur Athletic Federation recinds its ridiculous rule of recognizing only outdoor records: Thomas still is the world champion, but on the IAAF books only, fntil he beats Brumel's mark which could be in the not-too-distant future-he will be second best.
