THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, Wedneoday, July 19, 1961 29 As I See It- Television will provide th nation with coverage of the raw reatity of the event In the making, of a meaningful experience at the moment cf its happening. No 1 1 i scriptwriter could match the excitement and suspense inherent in this telecast, which has been delayed 24 hours because of unfavorable weather.

The flight Astronaut Grissom will take will be basically the same taken last May 5 by Comdr. Alan B. Shepard, who became, in the words of President Kennedy "the television star of the year." He soared 115 miles high and some 300 miles across the Atlantic. In most respects the second effort will be similar to the ride made by Shepard. A substantial difference will vbe in the Mercury capsule, which has been modified on recommendations of Cmdr.

Shepard. On the spot coverage for television will shape up this way: Viewers will have little advance notice of the precise time the launching will take place. The three networks will begin broadcast activity at approximately 7 a.m. with newsmen reporting on countdown preliminaries. Jack no doubt will tangle with panelists Henry Morgan and Bill Cullen and Garry Moore, who is host on the show. I enjoy the sharp exchanges between alert comedians and Wednesday's I've Got a Secret should afford many such encounters with Leonard tossing punches. I'VE GOT A SECRET has signed some bright comedians to appear on future programs. Jerry Lewis and Joey Bishop will be guests on the show in August. Both Lewis and Bishop can hold their own with the best of em.

A MANCHESTER READER, who prefers his name be with-held, writes; "See what I meant when I tried to tell you what a wonderful show this (The Price Is Right) is? Just think of the millions of people who like it. It's only the few, like you, who are mad because Bill Cullen is such a likable and popular man. I hope the sponsors will keep this fine show on the air for the next 20 years." A recent article stated that NBC gets 60,000 requests for tickets to The Price Is Right each month. It would appear a viewer's chances of getting a ticket to the show, being chosen for tiie panel and winning a gift or two are very few. But this fact obviously has not occurred to some who are looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

He fractured the audience with some of the best material I have heard on TV. Berle rarely has been topped in an exchange with another comedian. Leonard is one of the cleverest comedians around. Lately he has been a favorite panelist on the Paar show, appearing with increased regularity. Paar obviously likes to watch the rotund comedian clobber Paar's guests with withering remarks.

During the Monday night show Taar attempted to get off an old joke. When the audience failed to react he commented to Jack; "Old jokes don't get laughs any more, do they Jack?" To which Leonard replied: "They don't when you tell them, Jack." When Cliff Arquette (Charlie Weaver) came on stage Leonard quipped: "I know you. You went under the name of Walter Brennan for years." At one point Paar, discussing his weight, said "I weigh 170 pounds." Leonard shot back: "I had that much to eat for lunch today." I SUSrECT LEONARD will land some haymakers during the I've Got a Secret program Wednesday (Channel 5). He will appear as a guest with a "secret." Carol Burnett, the comedienne who won honors she so richly deserved during the past season as a regular member of the Garry Moore entourage, will be substituting for regular panelist Betsy Palmer. iv.ivj rr huh.
