Sixteen Logansport, Indiana, Pharos-Tribune One Killed When Three Autos and Two Trucks Collide OTTERBEIN (UP)—John Hay den Lewis, 21, Elwood, was killed Tuesday night when three automo-| biles and two big trucks piled — in a grinding double-collision the edge of this Benton County! town. State police said the chain-reaction wreck was touched off when Glenda King of Otterbein started to turn right off U.S. 52 into an Otterbein street. Her car was hit by another driven by Carl Hiike, Lafayette. Huke's car glanced into a semi- trailer driven by Theodore Backs, Vincennes. The big truck overturned. A second semi-trailer driven by Lawrence Tomilson, Cincinnati, was flagged down to keep it from plowing into the wreckage of the other truck. Lewis' car smashed Into the rear of the flaggd truck. Police said Lewis' home was somwhere in Wisconsin and that he has been working in Elwood. John Walls Heads Church Congregation John Walls was elected presi- of the local St. Jamos Lutheran congregation at the voters' assembly Monday evening. Other officers named are Gordon Muehlhaiisen, vice-president; Donald Rpwe, secretary; Albert Drompp, financial secretary; Wai ter Meyer, treasurer; Jerry Luct- zow, chairman of the finance board. Elected to three-year terms of office are John McCammon, trustee; Carl Meyer, Jr., elder; and Clarence Peck, deacon. Present members of the church council whose terms will continue through 1958 are Fred Hauss and Walter Kohls, trustees; Richard McDonald and Paul West, elder.;; Ralph Wiseley and Robert Woi.f, deacons. (International Radiophoto) State Traffic Toll 32 Under'56 Mark By UNITED PRESS Despite the fact Indiana's 1,000th traffic fatality..^of 1957 was recorded only five days later than that total in 1956, the year's toll was 32 lower than last year's as of Sunday midnight. State police provisional figures showed today that through last Sunday the toll was 999, compared with 1,031 at the same date last year. Twenty-two deaths were added to the list last week, compared with 41 in the corresponding week Of 1956. 7 IN FAMILY KILLED DBTROLT (UP) — Six young brothers and sisters were killed Tuesday when fire swept through their upstairs apartment near downtown Detroit. The children, ranging in age from 6 months to 6 years, apparently were alone in the apartment when the. fire started.
