The other is the powerful North Carolina Tre-flight team, sparked by Otto Graham. The Preflight team knocked off Navy in the first game. TARHEELS BEAT PREFL1GIIT North Carolina, playing the Pre-flight an informal game, won. Otto Graham was bottled. So Tarheel supporters have a reason to feel that their team will get going when least expected.

COOPER DOUBLES Walker Cooper followed with a double off the boards in left center, nearly 400 feet from the plate, but Kreevich played the ball perfectly and held Hopp at third. The customer saw some earlier records. The modern record, meaning since the advent of the lively baseball, be- longs to Trout and Newhouser. One hears a lot of conversation about that play Luke Sewell tried in the 11th inning Thursday.

I mean, when Pewell called for a bunt with McQuinn on second, having doubled. A bunt would normally have moved McQuinn to third with one rut. and McQuinn could have scored on a variety of things. It wasn't dumb baseball, by any means. If it had WORKED Sewell's trategy would have been acclaimed.

Howard siirnri Pf1 1 nJV receiving letters addressed weekly JlOWaia ourpiiseu tQ lne Iptay members of ciemson. Iptay means I Pay-Ten A-Year. The fund is used for football. After each game, Coach Frank Howard sends out a form letter to Iptay members. He gives them the lowdown.

Here's Howard's reaction to the Clemson-Georgia Tech game last Saturday "Dear Iptay: "I was a little disappointed in our football game last Saturday vith Georgia Tech. I fully realized before we played them that they had one of the best teams in the United States, but did not have any idea that they would beat us by a score of 51 to 0. I would have been fairly well satisfied had the score been around 25 points. "I thought our boys did well the first 10 minutes, as during (hat time it looked as if we would have a good game with them. Georgia Tech completed a running pass on our two-yard line and one of their hoys bucked over for the first srore.

Their second score came a few minutes later when they completed a running pans from left formation for another touchdown. On this play our whole team was completely fooled, and the pass receiver (Mickey I.ogan) was standing in the open to make the catch. At the half we were behind. 19 to 0, but I still thought we would be able to come back and make an interesting game of it. Georgia Tech scored 13 points in the third quarter and 19 points during the fourth quarter.

Despite the fact that Tech beat us worse this year than last year, I still think Me have a much better team than we had in 1943. 1 do not believe Tech could have beaten us any worse than they did, as they did not pull any punches this year. "Coach Alex was kind enough to tell me that during the second half of our Tech game in 1943 Georgia Tech would not throw any forward passes. After this assurance I brought the secondary defense up close, to the line and we were able to hold them farily well. In the game Saturday, Tech was still passing and was doing a good job of running with the ball during the second half." niri 4U rn Cooper, Kurowiki.

John Fulton, WGST's personable sports 'caster, will handle the Tech-North Carolina game for Atlanta listeners, but he won't have the, show to himself For, WATL, through the good graces of Mutual, will have the World Series, with the Browr3 and Cards playing a crucial game, and it looks like listeners will have to switch from one station to the other to pick up a little of this and a little of that. WSB and WAGA will have in-between games. Games from the midwest or the east and neither promise to pose anv competition for the WATL-WGST competition.

Of course, might he a few "furriners" in this territory who'd like to catch a smattering of their alma mater's game.
