Sometime ago, Gov. Saflbrd was made a special agent to personally examine the property and work and needed improvement, and reported that it would cost about SUiK) to properly complete the canal. In closing his report, Mr.

Osborn says: I have given much attention to the amount, of water in the Gila at the location of the canal and find from the best information that there is not more than enough that can be taken into the canal to irrigate fifty farms, and thereiore recommend that the number of shares reduced to fifty and their value increased lo 100. Buiggs Goodrich of Florence received a severe notice in The Citizen last week. It was given upon what seemed indisputable evidence that he deserved it and more. Tue Citizen has before cheerfully spoken well of him on the very same testimony. We have been actuated in all cases by a purpose to do right, and will just as soon as we can investigate this affair thoroughly, be frank and direct in setting him right if we have wronged him.

We would rather build him up than break him down. Martin L. Stiles and Hill De Armitt have sent us a document signed by themselves and evidently prepared by Mr. Goodrieh fur signatures generally. It begins: We, the undersigned, citizens of Florence, believing the accusation against llnggs Goodrich which appeared in Tue Chiben lo be false and unjust," and so foilo.

They do not say tiioy know it to be false and unjust but believe it to be. hope their- oelief is correct. By next fsuturiay we hope to have ampio testimony to dispose, of the matter so fur us Citizen is concerned, and further nope may be creUilubie to Mr. Goodrich. Wewisnhe hud taken pains to have got more signatures to the document before us, notwithstanding we do not doubt that Metisrs.
