Nothing occurred during the evening to mar the order of the procession, which was not allowed to be obstructed or in any man ner Impeded by vehicles. Much credit Isdue Cblef Atby and his oQlcers for the excellent manner in wutcti tney Kept the streets cleared of vehicles, and to Sergeant Arratta, who was detailed for tnts purpose. the atcsio by Professor Arnold's band was as good aa couia tie uestreu, ata in respect to variety, quantity and quality, pleased everyone who heard the martial strains, given as by magic science. who did not hear the muyc may form some Idea of its excellent character, when tney are miormed that in this full band were some of the best musicians ot Mem' phis and Louisville. uuncan, THE MOUNTED KNIGHTS. The mountwl Knlchts. each with visor aud helmet, buckler and spear, were formed in triangular shape, and sat their nooie steeus quire well. The appear ance or the glittering: helmet, trl-colored plumes of red, blue and saffron, and shield, gave a hlghtened beauty, aud another novel attraction to the character of the parade. They were mounted on fieri- black steeds that seemed to share the enthusiasm of their riders, for they pranced about as if eager to be freed from the restraint of the pro cession, ine past-citanceiior com manders and Btandard-tearer wore cold and silver helmets crested with rod plumes that fairly glittered as tho eun- oeatns ieii upon tne bcrnisned metal.

Following the mounted men came the KNIOHTS ON i OOT, each attired in fatigue suit, uncovered cap, belt, baldric, gauntlet and drawn sword. The proeesalon attracted general attention, and thousands of citizens thronged the sidewalks crowded the steps and the windows of buildings to witness the display, which far exceeded public expectation. The occasion fa one that will long be remembered and pleas antly recaiieu as an event ot no little shrnlfldauee among the Pythian Knighthood of Memphis, which, tbouch young, already has attained large pro portions, anu numbers lu its Castle Hall many of our best and truest citizens. Indeed, we iiavo never soon a nner looking body or men, and their apptarance elicited comment from the thousands of by standers that crowded along tho streets, their eyes fixed admiringly upon the pageant, which gleamed like a vein of gold, Pllver and saffron beauty. The members of Ivanhoe are nlive to the great interests of the knighthood, and lose no occaaion in which their efforts can be of service, to contribute to the honor and advancement of the onlsr.

Their pres ence among me -vnignw ot juernpuu was dulv appreciated, and it is hoped that at no distant day another und even a more Inagnlflcent occasion may allow the Knisrhts of Biownsville to again visit the Bluff City, where they will ever Unit a true welcome, auti ns entertained with that generoui hrxipitallty charac teristic of our Knights, fJid shared In by our citizens generally. THE CO.YCKKr A El II Ol.

As the time approached for the con oeitjtbo streets in the neighborhood of the Exposition building isecame crowded with thousands on their way to the spot where Prof. Arnold tad provided a feast tit for the music-loving people of Memphis. 'iuesoio singer, Mr. Petersen, gained everyone of nis vast audience, not only cy me beauty and nice llnlali or his style, but by bis mastership of what he had in hand. The soft wind strewing autumn leaves does Its work no more surely, nor more beautifully than the notes fell from Mr. Petersen's lips. The ladies and gentlemen of the chorus well sustained the theme be so harmoniously delivered.

An oris, with variations, from Poudert. the solo of which was played on tee cornet-a-piston by -Tores, sor Arnold, won one of the hearties! rounds of or the evening. The pel former on the boards, if he has any rlt, usually obtains appreciation. The j-d work ng aud hardly-worked lead- of a band rarely does. He Is looked ion as one doing mere common-place worK, and is passed over untnougnt or.

Professor Arnold, In his masterly per-fj'tnaneelast night, showed that such an esUmate would be doing him tbegrossest -justice, it was a master's band mat held me sweet, yet diflieult cornet-a piston, and drew Irom it strains so sweet, ho silvery, so earnest and win uing that he won the very being of his auditor. It was beautiful to Pee the au-dieiina Iiancint- nn nac nnte it mnin round, iinisned, and correct in strength and emphasis from the Instrument. The first part of the performance flufahed with a Potpourri from the favorite opera of Ddiiezettl'sZuifcrfu Jt-uiitiicnt. Instinct wlUi life the music wandered in the air like sweet spirits basking iu the sunbeam, sometimes hanslnc resrretfullv over a perishing flower, sometimes tripping it in the merry summer wind, sometimes capering sportively lu tho dancing enn-beams as they ithivered iu silver sheen on the surface of the gurgling stream so came the potpourri ot raing'e I mirth and s-ttnesrt, with a touch of melancholy. It was bijou we shall not readily forget.

The second part opened with Haydn's immortal iitaveni are TWian. Some of those who were preS' eut remembered Memphis am ers gaining credit by its rendition gome years before the war. But the instrumentation last night listanced all former attempts: If we Bay the vocal performance equaled it we say much, but we can say it. The audience was entranced with this enchanting, lellghttully-rende'ed chorus. Selections from Gounod's Faue followed, and we must confess we Uiought we had never rlghUy appreciated that divine music until we heard it us it was interpreted last night.

There was a grandeur in its movement that involved all we can Itn- aslne of dlguity a sweet blendiuz of sounds mat exhausts all the resources of harmony in involution and evoluuon of strains of melody so simple alone, so interwoven iu combination a tripping lightness in passages here aud there a variety of expression dreamy charm a winning grace, that maue us mutual, muii-eu iu. iui. ii, with Uie exception of Arnold's del- liously executed aria, the gem of the evening. The audience appreciated and applauded. But space forbids further particularizing, and we can only add a word for the delightful rendering of tlie JlalMuJah chorus; but we must say we missed the grand etiects or a powertui organ, wiilcn was wanting to give that weight and rounding grandeur Handel delighted in.

The ladles and gentlemen of the chorus deserve high credit for the sweetness and beauty they cave to the immortal notes, and their efforts were nobly sustained by the tinest instrumentation it has ever been the privilege of these bluffs to echo. The most ambitious musical effort ever tried in Memphis was made last night, and it Is with pleasure and pride we pronounce that effort a brilliant a grand success. Last night, if we mistake not, was an era from which Memphis wili date the starting point of many a roud musical victory yet to come. wish we had space to express at mere length our estimation of that trinity of talent that is comprised in the names takimr them in the order we find them ou the programme of Perrlng, llandwerker, and (tnougn last, not least! At the conclusion of the concert tho seats were cleared away, und many of those who but a lew moments ceiore had cDjoyed the great musical Jubilee, engaged In the dancing, which was continued until long after midnight. The ball was conducted quito pleasanUy, and overy participant will long recall Its delightful features, AMDS SMELTS. Ttia Eailier Cantata. To-night the Memphis Theater will be crowded with the vtile and beauty of the city, to' hear the rendition of the cantata of Esther, by the Esther club, whose members have for some time devoted themselvesqulte faithfully to their respective parts, and will fully meet public expectation In their cflhrts this evening, and upon the following nights. Already a large number of seats have been encaged, aud we may expect a full house.

It were unnecessary, in this connection, for us to say anything of the elegant character of this enteitamment, or the great pleasure in store for those who It will be one of the most brilliant entertainments that the people of Memphis have ever enjoyed; and not only for to-night, but for the two succeeding evenings, will this feast of music bo given to the appreciative and enlightened.
