(IndependentStaff Phofo) Jets nearly collide; 137 persons aboard CHICAGO (AP) A Trans World Airlines passenger jet missed by 50 to 100 feet colliding Friday with a United Airlines plane near Chicago, the second time in nine days that a TWA plane was involved in such an incident. Spokesman for United and TWA confirmed the incident over Lake Michigan, but provided few details. No passengers or crew members on either Boeing 727 jet were injured. AIRLINES SPOKESMEN said the incident was under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, which had no immediate comment. A passenger on the United plane, Flight 291 from Providence, R.I., to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, notified The Associated Press of the incident- He said the TWA plane, flight 403, swerved sharply to the left to avoid bitting the United aircraft, which had been cleared to descend into its landing approach pattern.

The TWA plane also was en route to O'Hare. The United flight carried 53 passengers and a crew of seven while the TWA flight, en route from Hartford, carried 70 passengers and seven crew members, a spokesman said. THE NATIONAL Weather. GOOD REPAIRABLE toys should be taken to the machine shop at Washington High School where they will be repaired by the V.I.C. department and returned to the toy depot. The canned goods program is in charge of the Boys Club and the YMCA. This, according to Smart is an important segment of the Christmas giving program Ohio's interest earnings down COLUMBUS (AP) State Treasurer Gertrude Donahey said Friday the state's interest earnings for 1975 will be down considerably from the record $90 million drawn from investments last year.

"We have more money, but we're not' getting the high interest we were last year," she said in explaining the drop-off. "We may not make $50 million." Deputy Treasurer Wayne Haloon said the state was taking in more money than in 1975, but was forced to pay it out at a faster clip. In addition, he said, interest rates that reached as high as 11 per cent last year are now averaging just over 6 per cent. Jury resumes deliberations in Collins trial CINCINNATI (AP) A Hamilton County Common Pleas Jury resumed deliberation today in the case of Cleophus Collins, accused of killing a policeman Aug. 26.

The jury was sequestered in a downtown hotel Friday night after deliberating since noon without coming to a verdict COLLINS, 52, is accused of aggravated murder in the death of Specialist William Loftin and attempted murder of Loftin's partner, Claude Deil, in a Shootout outside the Clock Bar in the Avondale section Aug. 26. Conviction could mean the death penalty after a sentence hearing.
