October was a record breaking month, both In production and shipments. The significant (act In It all Is the number of steel companies had more orders on their books at the end than at the beginning o( the month. Some mills have reported that new contract Inquiry has been smaller of late, but the Steel Corporation's statement for October 21, to be published this week, will show a further increase. Both In pig iron and steel ingot nearly all steel companies reached new high points In output last month. The Steel Corporation's Ingot production was over 1,000,000 or at the rate of 60,000 tons a day.

In a second there was an explosion. It occurred so soon after the fuse was lighted that the boys did not have time to run away from danger. A piece of the iron shell struck Worley on the arm and chest snd his Injuries are serious. Another piece struck Molts on the hand, lacerating It badly. The powder, too, went in Molts's direc tion and he was burned about the face and hands.

Wachtman waa standing with the other boys, but he escaped the flying pieces of Iron. A large section of the shell flew through the window of Webber's butcher shop and landed heavily against the wall. Persons In the shop at time rushed to the out side, thinking that something in the place had exploded.
