Twenty Logansport, Indiana,. Pharos-Tribune Winners of 4-H Speaking Contest ;'. Winners of the annual 4-H public speaking contest were nanped Wednesday evening following competition at the fairgrounds community center. ', -First place in the boys divi- . sion went to Jim Rush, of Washington township, with his topic "What I Expect From College". Susan Downham, of Deer Creek township, placed first in the girls division with her talk, "Climbing ffie Ladder of Success". Rush is a member of the Busy Bodies 4-H club and Miss Downham, a member of the Yanks 4-H club. Judge for the contest was Miss Amelia Hartz. : Second place in the girls division went to Anita Wheeler, of the Deer Creek Yanks, who spoke on "Insuring Your Future." Vivian Stair, of the Harrison Hustlers club, won third place in the girls division with a speech on "4-H Club 'and Some of Its Activities." CONSTRUCTION SPENDING WASHINGTON. (UPI)— Spend, ing for new construction in June increased to the highest rate for any month, according to the Census Bureau. Outlays for homes, office buildings, highways and other projects rose to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of nearly $63 billion or 4 per cent over the May pace. The previous record rate was $61 billion last November. CASTLE, Ind. CUPD- Mrs'. ViTginia Ann Turner, 43, was being held without bail in the Henry County Jail today after a grand jury Wednesday returned a voluntary manslaughter indictment, against her v for the slaying of her estranged r husband. Mrs. Turner was arrested only moments after she shot and killed her husband, Wallace Turner, 51, in front of their New Castle home last Sunday. Police said the woman, who admitted the shooting, had a pistol in her hand when they arrived. Authorities said .Mrs. Turner told them her husband had threatened to kill her and take their two children to Muncie where he •lived. The couple had been separated for some time. Four Hub Caps Reported Stolen Theft of four spinner type hub caps valued at $32 was reported to city police Thursday, morning by James Redman, 907 North St. He said he'parked his .automobile in front of his home at 10 p.m. Wednesday and when .he went to the car, at 6:30 a.m. Thursday he discovered the theft.
