Born July 1, 1963, David was the seventh of eight children raised by Dr. I. Robert Wood and Carol Ann Wood in Clifton Springs, N.Y. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Bucknell University, where he majored in re-law. He received his law degree from the University of Buffalo.

Even as a teenager it was clear that he would lead a life of activism and work on behalf of progressive political causes and social justice. At Midlakes High School he served as the student representative to the board of education and founded an underground student newspaper that found more favor with his classmates than school administrators. After earning his law degree, David was employed by the Public Interest Research a network of state-based organizations that work to protect the environment and public health and to nurture democratic government. He became the group's national counsel. More recently, he served as executive director of the GrassRoots Recycling Network, an organization that under his direction became a national leader in the drive to promote responsible disposal of electronic waste.

In his personal life, Mr. Wood applied a wide-ranging curiosity to many varied pursuits. He was a gifted natural athlete, an avid outdoorsman, a polished handyman and an eclectic artist. His two daughters, Malena, age 13, and Emma, age 6, were his greatest joy. They survive him, as do his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Clifton Springs, N.Y. APPLETON Harland "Hart" Zander, age 68, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Appleton Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1938, to Joseph and Margaret (Laufenberg) Zander in Cross Plains. Harland married the late Dawna Pivot on Feb. 8, 1969. He owned Zander Drilling Company for over 30 years and enjoyed repairing equipment and going out to eat with his friends.

Harland is survived by his siblings, Mary Ann Menzel of Colorado Springs, Ronald (Carol) Zander of Sun Prairie, Albert (Carrie Ann) Zander of Cross Plains, Charolette (Bill) Bollig of Mazomanie, LeRoy (Pamela) Zander of Cross Plains, and Rita (Dan) Heinz of East Troy; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dawna; his parents; and a brother, Vincent. Funeral services will be held on Monday, AND Dec. 18, 2006, at HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 3131 N. Richmond, Appleton at 12 noon.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until the time of service. DING Zander, Harland Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St. Appleton, WI 54911 920 733-5435 www.valleyfh.com Providing a happy This year, 60 Christmas for all.
