Another reason drycleaning has been declared- essential to national health is because certain educational institutions, realizing its value, have voluntarily done research on it. At Pennsylvania State College, for instance, Ellen R. Richards and Dr. Pauline Beery Mack, have done an important research on the bactericidal effects of drycleaning and written a bulletin on it, showing that contagious germs in clothing are effectively killed by dry-cleaning.
