LUUKIWUKI Twenty-four Logansport, Indiana, Pharos-Tribune American Family Menu GRAPEFRUIT, oranges and avocados combine for a simple and tempting salad as prelude to that hearty turkey-day dinner. Cut out core, dividing membrane. BY GAYNOR MADDOX NBA Food and Markets Editor • Florida appetizer salads add zest to the all-America Thanksgiving feast. Combining grapefruit, oranges and avocados from that fruitful state, Florida housewives produce appetite-awakening salads to serve before the lordly turkey makes its entrance. They have a trick, too, for getting neat sections from the grapefruit shell with all juice intact. Cut the grapefruit in half; then cut around each section. That means freezing the little triangular-shaped grapefruit outlined by membrane. Start cutting at the core of the fruit and follow a triangular path within the membrane. Then each section of fruit can be lifted out neatly with a spoon. Because you are going to use the shell for the appetizer- Combine grapefruit and. orange sections.' Line grapefruit shells with- salad greens; spoon in combined sections. Cut avocados in half lengthwise; remove pit. Peel skin from halves; dice avocado^ Dip in citrus juice to prevent discoloration. Spoon diced avocado on top of each salad. Serve with French dressing made of- lemon juice, oil, salt and pepper. Grapefruit Cranberry Relish (Approximately 3 cups) Two cups fresh cranberries, 1 cup sugar, 1 grapefruit, sectioned, Put cranberries through food chopper. Add sugar; mix well Dice grapefruit sections; stir into cranberry mixture. Chill. TOMORROW'S DINNER: Grapefruit, .orange and avocado appetizer, broiled frozen fillets, lemon and parsley butter, whipped pota- dips and spreads flavored with fresh lemon juice. Tangy Clam Scoop-Up One clove garlic, 1 cup dry cottage cheese; one 7-ounce can minced clams, well drained; 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, % teaspoon salt, Yt cup chopped, ripe olives; 1/16 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Rub medium-size bowl with garlic; add remaining ingredients; blend well. Use for orange wedges as-dip. Orange Cocktail Dip (Makes about 1 cup) Two 3-ounce packages cream cheese, % cup diced, fresh orange; 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, V* teaspoon salt, 10 drops Tabasco sauce. Soften cream cheese; mix with remaining ingredients until' well blended, fluffy. Serve as cocktail dip for fresh, raw vegetables, raw fruits, 'potato chips. Lemon Cocktail Sauce One B-ounce package cream cheese, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, Yt teaspoon salt. Cream softened cream cheese with lemon juice and salt until light and fluffy. Divide and add different seasonings, such as anchovy paste and sweet pickle relish or dill seed. Deviled Crackers Spread crisp crackers with butter seasoned with onion 1 salt, fresh lemon juice, dry mustard, salt and pepper. Broil until- hot. Citrus Appetizer Salad (6 servings) ; Three grapefruit, chilled; 4 oranges, sectioned; salad greens, 2 avocados. Cut grapefruit in half. Cut around each section, loosening fruit from membrane. Remove sections-. butter or margarine, ready-mix lemon angel food cake, coffee, tea, milk. Lemons for health, for flavor emphasis and for just plain better food. The high court said it found no evidence that Mattingly entered into a conspiracy with two other men to break into Reed's Barber Shop at Mount Vernon. Mattingly was sentenced • by Posey Circuit Judge Francis Knowles to 1-14 years in the State Reformatory and fined $25.
