A Petition to Time. in the course "of their disputations over the spoils. We are inclined to think that an analysis of the democratic party of Wisconsin would show that its component parts are quite as remarkable as those of any combination that can or will hereafter be made. At some futnre day we may make a little investigation of this kind as there is a very rich field open for such experiments. j2TFivc and a half million sterling, Tuesday, Slay 17, 1353 "Tho Coalition." JZ3T The Kenesha Democrat announces the following Wisconsin appointments, on the authority of a note from Washington Mr. Newland has been appointed Harbor Agent at Sheboygan in place of John Bannister; Capt. Estes, timber Agent on the Mississippi Mr. Cady of Green Bay timber agent for that vicinity; Mr.

Suydara of Green Bay, sub-Indian agent for the Menomonees Mr. Knapp, recently of this city, Mr. Reed, late of the Fond du Lac A BONE TO PICK A creature easily passed by Not lovely to the stranger's eye." Winnie WTinlove is not a beauty, but she has a sensible, lovely, kissable face, which is not only good looking, but looks good aud then her dress is always so neat, her smiles so bright, and her voice so sweet, tha though she would attract no attention ata theatre or ball, she is the dearst ornament of a husband's home. She is never "caught," call when you will for her house, like herself, is the very pink of neatness not that stiff uncomfortable sort which makes you dread to use the polished furniture but an easy all prevailing order, which seems so natural, one scarcely wonders atjit. If in accomplishing this, her servants gave her trouble, she does not 44 fight her battles o'er agnin" for the entertainment of her husband or visitors.

She is notr in the usual senses of the term, accomplished does not perform brilliant fantasias upon the piano fortie, or sing incomprehensible Italian bravuras; bat she plays a sensible accompaniment, or dance correctly, with taste, and in perfect time sinjrs an English ballad with feeling and expression and does either when requested, without putting on air or requiring the stimulus of large audience. She has actually been known to play and sing for more then a hour with no listeners but her hus Galeka. -There has been a large aggregate rise in the value of real estate, in Galena and the immediate vicinity, this spring. We hear of prices being paid for property that a few months ago would have been deemed extravagantly high. Wealth is accumulating with great comparative rapidity, though strange as it may seem to the man in the moon, not an individual has been heard of, who will own that he has as much as he wants.

The tide of prosperity has reached Galena, and it is none the less healthful because it flows in quietly, with no gre.it foaming and fretting by reason of headlands and breakers. Gal. articles upon what is termed the coalition." A Whig and a Free Soil Convention have been called, to meet at this place upon the same week, and it is feared that they may conclude to unite upon some sound and capable man, for Governor at least, and thus put in jeopardy the election of whatever party hack our democratic friends may pronounce entitled to that office according to the usages of the party. AVhat renders this prospect doubly odi ous is that fears are entertained that a large number of the rank and file of their own party, may enter into the same unholy coalition. It is known that there are many of them men who have no particular aspirations or expectations but have voted hitherto with the party from principle who have waited and waited for the good time coming, and witnessed repeated glorious triumphs of the party, and yet have seen nothing of the good time, but only an increase of taxes and of official corruption.

Such men contemplate the State dbt with anything but satisfaction. They have been taught to believe tho maxim that "the world is governed too much;" and the spectacle of our Democratic Legislature, sitting month after month, lavishly expending the people's money, devoting nearly their whole time to special legislation to the neglect of the great and general interests of the state, and sqandering the funds of the Treasury for the furtherance of private speculations has not been a very pleasing one in their eves. Then again the scrambling, bickering, and cabaling for the spoils which is going on at'present is quite edifying to those not immediately interested. It opens the eyes of the people to the great fact that the ardor and devotion of their is grounded wholly upon their love of the spoils, and suggests the propria ty of some attempt to break up the present organization and bring about a reformation in the management of our State affairs. With such a feeling existing among the people it is no wonder that the coalition is deprecated, by tLe organs of the present special-legislation, State-debt, political organization.

There is no doubt but what it would be dangerous. It is true that the executive should supported by the proper kind of a legislature, but that considerable good can be accomplished, even without, is proved by our history for the last two years. Green Bay Advocate, The Advocate has an article on the trade of the Bay. It states that the Trout and Hitching the Cussed Thing.

Th New Hampshire Register gives the following account of an incident on the New Haven and Hartford railroad, soon after it went into operation. The train stopped at Meriden to wood up, and a fidgety old gentleman, who was probably for the first time in his life in a railroad car, and who held on his seat with both hands from the moment the cars left Hartford, looking as though ho expected every moment to be 6hook out the window, suddenly stepped out on the platform, and took a rapid look at the locomotive. The Inmber trade is also expand ing, and extensive outlays are being made, the efforts of the present Executive have done much to prevent the state from becoming involved still more deeply than she is, and his course has met with the hearty approval of the people.

The methods adopted to oppose this obnoxious coalition are somewhat entertaining. One article is denunciatory another is an eloquent appeal to the Free Soilers to stand by their principles and a regular homily is pronounced upon the moral depravity of having anything to do with the Whigs another enjoins upon the latter party, the impropriety of mixing up with that foul combination of humbug, hypocrisy and treachery, Free-Soilism while another attempts to ridicule the idea and sparkles with all tLe wit the author can manufacture out of Niggerism, Federalism, Spiritrap- erecting saw mills and improving old ones. duty which lies nearest her, to the best of her ability.
