The Board of State Canvassers completed, their labors this morning. The returns from four counties -were informal, under the decision of the board last spring, and were thrown out, viz: Buffalo, Door, Eau Claire and Milwaukee. It is a little remarkable that, with, printed blanks furnished by the State, the clerks of the counties cannot send up the returns in proper form. The Milwaukee return, which was the most important one rejected, lacked the county seal. The footings of the official canvass are as follows: Republican.

Democrat. Majoritios, Randall, 59,999 Hobart, 52,539 Noble, 59,606 Palmer, 63,059 Harvey, 69,886 Alden, 62,735 Hastings, 61,369 Silverman, 40,931 Howe, 60,569 Crawford, 62,209 7,460 6,547 7,151 12,233 8,360 6,817 6,611 6,936 Steenwyk, 59,697 Squires, 62,880 Pickard, 69,355 Draper, 62,844 lleg, 59,609 Fleck, 62,673 Tkiu following is a statement of the actual rote with all errors of footings in the official returns corrected, and with those counties rejected byjthe canvassers included Maj. Randall, 63,500 Hobart, 59,516 3,984 Noble, 63,147 Palmer, 60,093 3,054 Harvey, 63,453 Alden, 69,765 3,688 65,473 Silverman, 54,710 10,763 Howe, 64,032 Crawford, 69,200 4,832 Piekard, 62,746 Draper, 59,882 2,864 Van ijteenwyk, 63,242 lleg, 63,051 Squires, Fleck, 59,586 3,465 Steamer Milwaukee Ashore. We regret to learn from the Milwaukee papers that one of tho magnificent steamers of the Detroit Milwaukee Railway line, went ashore at Grand Haven, on the night of the 20th November, and no lies in a critical condition, liable to be destroyed the first blow. She was beached in consequence of a very singular accident, and in quite calm weather.

The regular train just arrived and transferred its passengers, and she was about leaving for Milwaukee, when, just as she arrived outside, the rud der chains got foul by drawing a piece of heavy canvass into the dulley-block, in such a manner that it was rendered immovable. The wheelsman at once lost control of the boat, and, in ten minutes after leaving the dock, she was lost on an exposed and dangerous beach, which very few, if any, shipwrecked vessels have ever got away from: Assistance was at hand, in the shape of steam tags, but up to the last accounts nothing had been effected towards plluiDg her off. jagT" The proBpectoa of The New York Ledger, the great family paper, will be found in an another column. It is scarcely necessary to say that The Ledger is by far the most popular family paper in the country, Laving a circulation of over four hundred thousand copies. It is always characterized by a high moral tone, and, as will be seen by reference to its advertisement, employes more eminent contributors than any other paper in the world.

Lkctuees this Winter. If the Madisoo Institute is still in existence," why don't the proper persons make some move in relation to tlie securing of lecturers this winter, Other cities in the state have already engaged prominent men, and the probability is that there are but rew -vwry-popular lecturers unengaged. Yesterday we publised the present ment of the Grand Jury in regard to the jail and to'day our readers will' find in the Proceedings of the Board of Supervisors some resolutions passed by that body in' relation to the same matter.

The latter say nothing in relations to, IIilgen- dorf. The Pkospeeitt of Madison. From a notice in our paper of it will hi seen that Rev. Mr. Esgleston will discourse upon the "Problem of Madieon't at hi church to-mor row eve ning.

From his well established reputation as an original thinker, and his habit of practical application of his we have little doubt but all who attend will interested, if not gratified and instructed. The Irrepressible Conflict. Rev. N. A Staples, of Milwaukee will repeat his discourse on the "irrepressible conflict" at the Assembly Ilall on Monday evening next, at 7 o'clock.
