The appoinhr.ent of Gen. ConMilor to til situation of minister of war, gave great ofYencc to the citizen of- Carthafsena. On the night of tlie 27th of August, a most terrible Tragaia was sunir to him, to the sound of all sorts of instruments that could express in the most noisy manner the spite of his enemies. When his oonsination- was- made known, ic was not doubted but he would be treated with a serenade of this description, he having being one of those who were put on the list on the night of the 17th of April, when he would probably have shared the fate of the other persons CXft Veb l5T.iNT.,.The r.vrf a wnsfrmt was declared at Villa du Prava, Sl on tha ff 00 the "8th. the governor snd the crowns took the oath of adherence to it.

Mass was then celebrated, and it was resolved, that the government ihoni'ul be conducted by five persons chosen by Lhe people, who were elected the next day. On the 3d of aa tteraj was made to reinstate the governor, but it was defeated; and on the 8t two delegates being elected to send to the Cortes, his excellency, without allowing him a moment to settle his private affairs, was ordered LAW REPORT MIDDLESEX SESSIONS Satijudat, Serr. 18. By the time he bad reachea Titch-field-street, the mob had mcreasedto two or three hundred and after he entered the house he was going to, they continued before it in sucB a riotous state, as induced him to fear they would break the windows or commit some other acts of violence. Tcjavoid this, be walked out of the house, and proceeded to Marlhorougii-street police office, the mob following him with the same spirit of outraga a before. He obtained the assistance oOeveral of the police officers, and went out into the mob, when one of the officers seized theprisoner.

The officer swore he saw the prisoner throw a handful of mud at the prosecutor. Several persons gave the prisoner, who is an apprentice, a most excellent character. The jury immediately found the prisoner guilty. The Chairman reprobated, in strong terms, the conduct of the prisoner, and sentenced him to three months imprisonment. OLD BAILEY.

Monday, September 10. Mr. Turner this day took his trial for an alleged fraud on the bank, committed in March last, by a fictitious transfer off 10,000. navy Ave per cents. An account of the transaction appeared in our paper at the time and the circumstances detailed in evidence corresponded with that account Mr.

Turner in his defei ice said, the way in which he had beeu entrapped into tbc transaction, which laid the foundation of imputed guilt, was simple. He was applied to for a loan of money by one of those persona in the guise of gentlemen who infest society, and who had discovered by some means that he was able to accommodate him. In answer to a demand of security, he referred him to a credit, which, for family reasons, stood in his name in the books uf the bank, lie described himself as a man of substance resident at Highgate. His account was plausible, his terms liberal, his appearance above suspicion, and, without making any imiulry at Highgate, he (the prisoner) Inspected the books at the bank. If he had entertained any suspicion, which he did not, that inspection was sufficient t.

We learn from Madrid, that the general has refused to accept the office and that general Rodriguez had been nominated by the King, who also declined acting. PRIVATE COaRKSPONDEVCE. Bayonte, Sept. 9. Letters from Oleron, dated the 6th instant, inform us, that an important conspiracy broke out at Saragossa on the 30th tilt.

Gen ttiego, seconded by an individual named Cugent de Montarlot, a French refugee, formerly Editor of L' Homme Gris, and aided by several French officers, also refugees, undertook to proclaim a republican government. On the 30th and 31st ult. there was much commotion but the troops having, almost generally, refused to support the conspirators, their project failed, most happily for the peaceable inhabitants of that town. Several of the conspirators have been arrested. Kiego having fled, pursuit has been made, and we are this moment assured that he has been arrested, and conducted to the castle of Lerida.

We learn from Madrid, that at Segsira, where their Majesties stopped a few minutes, on their way from la Granga to the Escurial, they were welcomed with universal acclamations of Long live the King The Bourbons for ever 1 Death to the Constitution No tumult took place, because all were animated with the same sentiments. The French minister at Madrid, M. the Count Lagarde, has made representations to the minister of foreign affairs respecting the atrocious insults, in which a certain journal, published at Madrid in the French language, indulges against foreign governments, and especially against France. The interference of the ambassador has been attended with no result. The -j Uit Pamouc Societies established in Spain, have decided, thatall titles should be abolished lu their meetings, and that henceforth thev would term each other muzsin 1 nis measure, wftreh is in imitation or the French Ja cobins ot 1S2, has been adopted by several constitutional municipal councils Paris Paper.

Subsequent accounts from Madrid and Turin confirm the intelligence in the above letter. At Madrid, on the 3d instant, there was a considerable agitation the orators of the club Fontano d'Oro defended the conduct of sxteso, and numerous patrales paraded the streets. General Kiego has been deprived of the military command at Arragon, and ordered to leave Saragossa. He retired to Lerida He has since published a proclamation to the brave soldiers and patriots of the army of Arragon," dated Pina, September 3d. His dismissal from the military command, he says, was procured by atrocious calumnies and he solemnly vows his unshaken devotion to the constitutional cause.

We are assured that the note is of the highest importance, inasmuch as it contains hew explanations on each of the points stated in the Russian ultimatum, and tha it might be regarded, in. certain respects, as a commentary on the Ottoman declaration wliich the Russian minister refused to receive, and which was addressed directly to the Emperor Alexander. We are assured, that M. de Strogonoff, on being urged by the ministers of the other great powers, consemea to receive this note, which is of a pacific cnaracter.

Trieste, Aug. 30. The governor of this place ha been directed by government to counsel the merchants to abstain from all hazardous speculations with Constantinople and the ports of the Levant, circumstances being such that it is impossible to reckon positively on the maintenance of existing relations, 'the accounts received troui the Morea are satisfactory. The government of the Peloponnesus is at length organized, as that of Livadia had already been.

The two provisional governments of Athens and the Morea have named deputies who are to repair to Petersburgh to implore tlie protection of the Emperor of Russia. 10. The Porte has received a very importa.it communication from the English ambassador: English and Anglo-Ionian subjects are prohibited the Greek insurgents with men, arms or ammunition. Those who infringe this interdiction will be punished as niretes. The rei nurse- incut of any sum of money to the Greek insurgents is forbidden. The Knsrlish consuls have orders tn rem? nize only -the Turkish authorities, and to give them all the aid due to a friendly power and not to give a passport, or afford an asylum, to the insurgent, nor grant protection to any merchant of their nation who may have sold arms to the Greeks- Ac.

A private letter from Constantinople of the above date Safirms. that the Russian ambassador dwlwd before his departure, that war was inevitable, and we learn from Vienna, under date Sept- 3, that the Turkish government has demanded of Russia the expulsion of Michael Suzzo, the of from Odessa. This demand, if correct, will give rise to fresh difficulties.

The Paris papers of Friday week, contain a paragraph, stating, that the courier who arrived on the 10th from St Petersburgh, brought a new declaration of the Emperor of Russia, addressed to the Ottoman Porte. This document, it is affirmed, expresses pacific sentiments, but renews the demands already made relative to WaUachia, and the religious liberty of the Greeks; tu these propositions, however, it was believed the Porte aould accede. The general tone of the journals was decidedly pacific. We learn with regret, that in the early part of August the tranquility of Smyrna was again disturbed br outrages on the Christians. It is said, that the 1 urks, under the pretext of having discovered a conspiracy, ran through the streets of Smyrna with arms, and attacked the Greclcs directing their vengeance principally against the most wealthy persons of that nation.

Not lo the Greeks, however, was their violence confined, for it is added, that twenty Genoese, accused of having acted as agents lor the Greeks, were murdered with some shew of deliberate proceeding, notwithstanding the earnest remonstrances and sohcitations of the English and Preach consuls. An article dated Her-matmadt, August 25, mentions, that the Turks had murdered a numerous body of Greeks, who had sur rendered to them upon the faith of an amnesty. The soldiers are extremely angry because they cannot kill the Dey, and are, consequently, deprived of the advantages which the Turks usually gain in the change of government.
