By Wes Gaffer West Point, Sept. 20 A lot of people from Bethlehem, must be wondering if the Lehigh University trip to West Point was necessary, particularly after the 54-32 loss to Army this musty, foggy afternoon. There were those lapses during the game Spectating, for the most part; was the game for Sterrett's cannon roar for the finale. And so it went for Lehigh.

Everything went for the Cadets. It was the first time in 66 games that they had scored more than 50 points. And their total offense, 643 yards, was only four shy of the yardage run up by Glenn Davis, Felix Blanchard and company" against Pitt In 1944. Adding the 44 points scored CM 02 02 such as the time center Gene Borgosz made the short snap to quarterback Joe Sterrett, completely missing the waiting hands only to gently lower the ball to the ground for yet another Army recovery and eventual touchdown. Or take the post-game serenade by the marching band, which easily won the musical contest because the Army band had walked out of Michie Stadium with most of the 27,872 scoring-sated fans.

The Lehigh band skillfully built up to the noisy crescendo that ends Tschaikovsky's 1812 Overture only to see two cadets wheeling the salute gun out of the stadium and there was no against Holy Cross last week, Army has 98 points in two games. In eieht of the 12 times Army had possession of the ball, the Cadets scored. Twice fumbled it away and they gave up the ball as the time ran out at the end of the lirst hail ana at the end of the game.
