Cool Low tonight in low 50s. High Sunday in 70s. Rain odds: zero. 109th 295 THE EVENING INDEPENDENT Established 1863 Santa Claim didn't make it back to the North Pole Christmas. He's still down at the Internal Revenue office trying to explain the $7 billion he put down for gifts.

Massillon, Ohio, 44646, Saturday, June 17, 1972 Home Delivery 60 Cents a Week 10c A COPY Large crowd at commencement A standing room only crowd filled United Wesley Methodist church to capacity Friday evening for Massillon Oily Hospital School of Nursing's commencement when diplomas were awarded to 27 graduates. LOIS LORRAINE Shrock, summa cum laude in her class, was awarded a $1,500 scholarship for post-graduate study Train wreck in France claims 43 SOISSONS, France (AP) The bodies of 43 persons were pulled today from the wreckage of two trains that piled up in a railway tunnel which collapsed near here. Rescue workers were making their way through the debris to reach about 10 other persons believed trapped in the trains. SEVENTY were injured; of 30 were taken to hospitals in serious condition. About 500 rescue workers were on the scene, digging in the debris.

The two trains, crowded with about 500 persons and going in (See FRANCE 10) provided by the hospital board of trustees. Miss Shrock, the daughter of Henry C. Shrock of Walnut Creek, also received a silver charm for her outstanding scholastic achievements for the past, three years. Miss Barbara Merles, school director, presented the class for graduation and gave them school pins, with Mrs. Marilyn Fogle, director of nursing service at the hospital, assisting.

Attorney Richard Hardman, chairman of the board of trustees, presented the diplomas and awards to the scholarship winners. Tara Netziy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Netzly of 2818 Elmbreeze st NW, Perry township, was magna cum laude and ranked third in her class.

PAM WHITEHOUSE, daughter of Charles J. Whibetoouse of 1213 Rockwood st SW, Canton, graduated cum laude placing fourth in her class. She and' Miss Netzly were awarded scholarship charms and named runners up for the scholarship should Miss Shrock not pursue further education, Kabhy Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond M.

Jones of 13955 Elton at SW, Sugar Creek township, was second in the class and graduated magna cum laude. Miss Jones was not considered for the scholarship since she plans to enter the U. S. Air (See LARGE Page 10) Dad to come in for special honors Sunday By AMY SHRIVER "He's such a good father, I'm glad we have special days to celebrate for him!" In these words, Mrs. James (Alma) Martin of 2135 Lincoln Way NW summed up bhe feelings of most Massillon area families in regards to Father's Day, which will be internationally celebrated tomorrow.

SUCH TERMS as "well-deserved" sprinkled the conversations between this reporter and area families on the topic of Father's Days. The Martins are havng a family picnic, and their Where to find niurcnea Comics Jeane Dixon The 'Home Line' Weather Report 9 1 3 13 2' 1 13 11 8 9 11 12 14 six ohildren, Ann, 17, Rosemary, I 4 Steven, 13, Julie, 10 7 'have all chipped to buy Had a special present for the summer months ahead an outdoor grill. Most families however, will be celebrating Father's Day in the quiet manner wliioh, has come to be its tradition. According to Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Fritz of 3216 Pine Hills dr SW, Perry township, she, her hus- foand and their seven children, David, 9, Mary, 8, Jill, .6, Sue, 5, Jeanie, 4, Karen, IVz and Nancy', four months, will just be "taking it easy or trying to!" Regardless of the manner of the celebration, be it relaxation, picnics, boating, fishing, swimming or whatever, the idea is to take a day out of the year to thank Dads for all that they do for their families throughout the year.

It is interesting to note, however, that Mother's Day was a holiday before we flhought of honoring Dads. The ihistary of Father's Day 'is interesting, and, according to Associated Press writer Carole Banns, it began in 1909 when after 'listening to a 1909 Mother's Day church (See DAD Page 10) SOLEMN PROCESSION OPENS COMMENCEMENT OF MASSILLON CITY HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING AT WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. U.S.

air and naval forces again heavily bombarded North Vietnam, but stayed below the 201ih parallel 70 miles south of Hanoi to avoid any incidents during the visit of Soviet President Nikolai Podgorny to tihe North Vietnamese capital. IN A surprise development, 100 South Vietnamese commandos made a 'helicopter assault into the North Vietnamese held district town of Tan Cairn, 25 miles north of Kontum City in the central 'highlands. The town fell to the North Vietnamese April 24. The commandos were pulled out by South Vietnamese helicopters after a four-hour sweep, perhaps to gain intelligence information for a larger operation later on. The government forces returned to Kontum bringing out with them nine South Vietnamese soldiers being held captive and 49 civilians, field reports said.

The operation was preceded by 'heavy U.S. B52 raids on the edges of the town. The U.S. Command reported that Air Force, Navy and fighter-bombers carried out more than 320 air strikes against North Vietnam Friday. More than 350 strikes were flown over the North the pre- vious day.

THE MAJOR raids Friday included attacks on the Dong Phong Throng railroad bypass bridge nine miles nortiheast ef Thanh Hoa near the 20th parallel, 200 miles north of the demilitarized zone, and renewed strikes on MIG air bases at Bad (See LAST Page 10) I Podgorny making bid for end to Indochina war? (Independent Staff Photo) CALCUTTA, India (AP) Airport sources said today Soviet President Nikolai V. Podgorny has prolonged by one day visit to a visit linked by jytoscow observers to a possible-Soviet bid to help end the Indochina war. Podgornys plane originally was due in Calcutta from Hanoi this morning, but a messaga said the stopover would be postponed 24 hours, the sources disclosed.

Soviet aircraft frequently fly to North Vietnam via Calcutta to avoid crossing Communist China. PODGORNY passed through Calcutta Wednesday night on his undisclosed mission to Hanoi. Victor Louis, a well informed Soviet journalist, wrote Friday that the visit "is aimed at stopping hostilities on all fronts so that new negotiations can get under way." Louis, who often has access to Kremlin views, said in the London Evening News that Moscow observers believe that, "if both the North and South Vietnamese would halt in their present positions, there could be a cooling-off period that could lead to a referendum or new elections in South Vietnam." Louis also said Soviet leaders were impressed at the Moscow summit by President Nixon's determination to end the war. Podgorny would be able to give Hanoi a firsthand account of both the Soviet and American views on Vietnam, he added. SATO TO RESIGN Japan's Prims Minister Eisafcu Sato Friday publicly announced his intention to resign as head of his ruling Liberal Democratic party.

The announcement would automatically apply to 'his premiership as well. Story page 3. (AP Wirephoto) FEMALE HELP WANTED Full or part time. Dial 832-3724. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GLORIA HUSBAND AND KIDS Happy Father's Day to the best Dad in the world Mom and Paul.
