"We're going to win the pennant," he said Jhen, "because the Yankees are not going to beat us nine of 11 in our park as they did ast year. A majority of those de- 'eats came in the late innings after we had taken the lead. "We had that in mind when we raded some of our power for more pitching. I feel the only club we have to beat to take it all is Yankees and I'm sure we have pitching to do it." Lose Again The White Sox met the Yankees 'or the first time this season Monday Chicago. It was the same old story.

The Yankees won, 5-1. They hit three home runs, by vlickey Mantle, Hank Bauer and Marv Throneberry. Chicago got only five hits off Johnny Kucks avoiding a shutout in the ninth nning. The defeat shoved the Sox deeper into the American League basement, 2 games behind the Yankees. Kansas City retained second place, games off the anquishing Washington 7-3.

The Boson left-hander went all the Cards Surge Into Fourth Blanking Phils By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS After almost being left at the starting gate, the St. Louis Car dinals have finally pulled up int fourth place in the Nationa League race.

It took 11 victories in their las 13 games to do it. Lindy McDan iel made sure of it by hurling a seven-hitter against Philadelphia as the Cardinals triumphed 5-0. I was the $50,000 bonus right-hand er's first shutout of the year and his first since he blanked the same team by the same score on May 16, 1957. The Cardinals' sizzling pace is jeing matched, practically victory for victory, by the San Francisco Giants. The West Coast sensations also made it 11 victories in their ast 13 outings Monday night with a 4-2 decision in Cincinnati.

Young Mike McCormick, the $60,000 bonus left-hander, posted his fourth victory without a defeat with a ive-hitter. Giants In First The Giants' triumph, coupled vith Los Angeles' 6-3 success in Milwaukee in 11 innings, boosted hem into first place by 24 percentage points over the Braves, 'ittsburgh blasted out of a five- same losing streak with a 12-3 walloping of Chicago. The Cards' surge can be attributed to their sudden ferocity against southpaws, who used to give them a great deal of concern. They have faced seven start- ng left-handers during their treak, and have beaten six, kayo- ng the seventh. Curt Simmons, their latest vic- im, was driven out in the sixth nning when the Cards scored wice.

Then right Fielder John Janssen tapped a bounder back to Walker on the mound, who threw to Don Drake at First, but Drake dropped the perfect throw with Zumdahl scoring the tying run. Strauch rounded third and also tried to score. Drake's throw to catcher Larry Simmons arrived in Jlenty of time to nab the runner, but Simmons dropped the ball giving Chadwick the decision. Hitters' Battle Both teams sparkled in the hit department with Chadwick having 13 and Forreston 10, four of which went for extra bases. Schoonhoven had a triple and Gary Flickinger a double for the Cards.

Chadwick's only extra base hit a two-run homer by Queck- raerner in the fourth inning when Chadwick scored five runs. Box score: Chadwick (11) Forreston (10) ab ab Kahlcr 3b 423 Wubbena L. Yes. According to one doctor, the size of the legs can be increased by weight-resistance exercises. "Free" exercises, he says, without weight resistance is not nearly so effective. This may be true but ballet dancers acquire well developed legs by "free" exercises. They spend hours on end doing "squats" or plies.

With the back erect and the head up the knees and hips are fully flexed untilthe dancer is in a full knees-bent position. Plies are done slowly, first with the feet together and then with the feet about twelve inches apart. Q. Are warts catching? A. Some kinds may be.

Warts are caused by a virus of which there may be two types. In most cases the wart-causing virus isn't too easily passed along from one person to another. It may stay on the skin a long time and cause trouble only when the skin is broken or scratched. Q. Can club foot be treated without surgery? A.

Yes. A Navy doctor says that most club foot in infants can be successfully treated by manipulation and use of casts. Certain severe cases require surgery. Q. Is it safe to use rain water collected from the roof? A.

It depends on the roof. If tha house Is located near a large orchard or garden where chemical bug sprays are used, the harmful chemical may settle on the roof and be washed down with the rain water. The pebble material now used on asbestos shingles may contain enough lead to make rain water unfit to drink. It would be best to consult your local health department regarding the safety of rain-barrel water.
