1 i 51X STATE INCOME TAX BLANKS RECEIVED BY ASSESSOR HERE Returns Hay Be Made Now But Payments Not Accepted Until May 1. While statu Income Mi for 1S11 rannot ba paid until May, tha re. turns on Inrnmee subject to the tai may muia at ny time from January I to March I. AU persona tu to make the return and who hv not dono so by March 1 ara tIUct to a penalty of 500 Blanks for making the return hava been leoelved by Har Turner, county nssensur, and may be obtained at his of lea on the first floor of tha court house. The law provide that the stats Income ta shall be paid between May and June 1.

Payment can not be accepted before May 1. Tha state Income tax baa caused collectors throughout MiMourt much trouble since the first enactment In 917, because of complications which resulted In actions at law and In supreme court decisions under which the collectors last year were ohliced to refund approximately 40 per cent of al Isuch taxes collected for that year. An enactment ef August I. 15. which' was apparently Infendea to Hear up the aituatlon, has made It fully as clear as mud to many.

The new law provides that for ltil and aubaequsnt to the time the new taw became effective, one half of 1 per cent. The law was enacted Auguet with an emergency clause which made It effective at once. Aa the rata lit to that time was 1 per cent. It Is supposed that rate, will hold up to Aupguet or last year, though the first part of 111 Is apparently not spw provided for In the new law. nh Mndtflraiuras.

Other modifications of the old law by theast enactment are that any portion Of an income oe.uie.. to charitable uses, up to 15 per cent. Is not taxable, and that residents of the state cannot be taxed on Incomes fro mproperty holdings In other states. Th la last amendment was to prevent, double taxation, as happened In man ycaaes, persons having property In two states being under the old frequently taxed in. both alatea on the same income.

Single persons have exemptions of Income up to ,1.000 a year. Mar rlrd persons have H.euO Income exempt, with i00 adidtlonsl for each dependent child undor years old. it Is orovltled tliut wve husband and wife live together the exemption of shall be Joint exemption, that is. they cannot each clalm 3.00 exempt, the head of the household being the only one exempt under that provision. Gifts or donations to churches or charlts.t;!c Institutions are deduct, ible If given, or donated after November 1, HSl.
