GM said the defective shafts could cause a lock ring to disengage, setting up a chain reaction that could cause the rear brakes to fail and ultimately cause the axles to fall off. (Kept hearing reports on cross-town buses and in Automats that we were in for a revival of the 40 days of rain thing, but that fizzled out, thank God.) What better way to celebrate the weekend than by attending revival flicks? Already caught several segments of "A Night in Casablanca" on a TV rfewscast last week and Groucho looks in rare form, "but decided to file it for later. Went to the Waverly to catch "Easy Rider," which Columbia for some reason thinks has found a whole new meaning, even though it was only 1969 it was made, so it's in a city saturation booking.

On the way over, saw cops picking up a prostate young guy from church steps and putting him on a stretcher. Too many revivals of that scene. Second one I've seen in a week. Other one was stretched out across a car hood, same non-moving chest. Summer in the city, been down, isn't it a pity On the way, passed a new shop called The Godfather Boutique.

Not open for business, but not sure I wanted to look into it, anyway. Didn't need any favors. Both were pronounced dead on arrival at Knickerbocker Hospital. Both men were Con Ed veterans, Dicamillo with 22 years E3d Gaughran with 21. A Con Ed spokesman said men had been installing electrical f- 2f 1 felt at Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda are on that road again.

"Easy Rider" still a good flick, even if the premise conies across a little on the fuzzy side now. What made me think it could be a Jesus allegory when I first saw it? Peter Fonda just looks myopic away from his tinted shades, and you don't even i get to see his abdominal scar in the nude bathing scene. There'i Phil Spector, face dancing with glee in his cameo role, as he snorts a little coke. Wonder how many people that influenced? Sorry I missed his punchup with A.J.

Weberman in the Allen Klein office Athens, July 3 (AP) Former high-ranking politicians issued statements today criticizing Secretary of State rear brakes fail, the front brakes should still work. Chevrolet said that Inspection for the defective shafts will take fewer than 10 minutes. Installation of new shafts, if needed, will take about an hour. The work will be done free by the company, Chevrolet said. The axle shaft recall is the third major recall since April of Vegas, which are built only at Chevrolet's Lordstown, Ohio, plant.

On May 8, Chevrolet re- bushings, or insulated cables, in the transformer, which was scheduled to go into service late next fall at the 110th St. substation. Gaughran reportedly climbed into the 15-foot-high transformer from an access hatch on top and was quickly overcome by the nitrogen gas in which the electrical equipment is packed. Dicamillo entered the transformer to assist Gaughran, and he, too, i was overcome. to "scrupulously avoid taking sides directly or indirectly" in Greece's internal affairs.

The Icelandic federation also discussed a Fischer demand for quarantine from the press and public during his stay in Iceland. Dilemma of Viet Girl Trailer for coming attractions: More midnight sessions of "The Night of the Living Dead." Ugh! I pass. Same for "Dr. No," on another big James Bond multiple go-round as if trying to prove Bond is the first living example of successful cryogenics. Think I'll wait for the movie in which Bond meets Shaft. Over to Movie Musical Theater, 80 St.

Marks Place, which opened last summer, showing "The Great Ziegfeld" through today (Tuesday). Idea here is to feed an audience which thinks movie musicals are the highest form of art. "Ziegfeld" was the best movie of 1936, according to the Academy Awards, and Luise Rainer best actress. Good movie even if you think Academy Awards are as relevant as pterodactyls. In original form, three hours with intermission.

Also a nine-minute "tabloid musical" with very young Judy Garland and Deanna Durbin doing a Carol Burnett-Julie Andrews bit. Movie Musical Theater is almost mythical. Used to be for plays, and looks as if it was designed wrong way to, ver--- wide and very shallow, so that in front row people rest their feet on the stage. A coffee bar sells old movie stills and penny candy, and serves coffee on a contribution basis. Okay to bring the coffee in to sip while you watch the silver screen.

Whole place has a specialized, clubby ambiance about it, like hanging out at a drive-in. Used to be highly detailed program notes posted outside with valuable information such as confirmation that that young chorus girl in a fast frame was indeed Lucille Ball, but for some reason the theater seems to have canceled the service. Annoying for trivia freaks. City seems to be one big revival. There's "The Great Dictator," latest in the Charlie series, but what I'm really itchy for is the arrival of his long-forbidden "A King in New York." Have the ftteling its radical 1970s message has got to be anti-climatic.
