Fire was discovered in the celiar of the double dwelling of Mrs. Patrick Kelley at the corner of State and Cemetery streets, Welsh Hill The fire was first noticed by neighbors, who bursted In the door and put out the fire with a bucket brigade. The occupants of the building were out at the time and origin Is a mystery. Damage was slight.

Charles Ashley Assaulted by Bur-eier. Two. bold robberies was committed last evening on Main street. Dr. Charles L.

Ashley while returning from a professional call came upon burglars and was assaulted. The first place visited by the thieves was Lee Bros, hardware store. The thief entered the store from the cellar and went to the main part of the building and took with him a revolver and a box of cartridges, at least that was all that is missing. and Mrs. John Edwards of Slo-i cum street have returned home from Philadelphia, Atlantic City and other places where they have been spending their honeymoon. The school board held a meeting. The following members were present: Dr. Shlefly, chairman; Evans, Thomas.

Non-la, Clark, Martin, Williams, A. Jones, M. C. Jones, Price and Powell. Mrs.

Sarah Benny asked the board to exonerate her from taxes. This was referred to the exoneration com mittee. Morgan Jones reported the large bell In the new school had fallen down. Referred. Timothy Price stated that some trouble originated over the insertion of the word union in the plan for the heating of the new school building, but that an agreement had been reached and the building Is now under way.

A motion was made and carried that the exoneration committee hear exonerations. A list of sentences on the ravages of consumption was ordered printed on the box covers of the books which are to be purchased this summer. Thia action has been taken by the Wilkes-Barre school board and may1 be of great benefit in preventing the spread of tuberculosis. Prof. Herman gave a talk on the Junior and Senior-flag scrap, stating that damage was done to plastering In one room.

Martin made a jjotion that all disputes about flags b'ex avoided. The report of the supervising principal was accepted and his recommendations be accepted and adopted. The annexation then came up. At torney Jones of the council asked lh board to assist them in their suit against certain residents of Plymouth Township. T.

Wr. Thomas Ftated that when the Edwardsvllle council annex ed Larksvllle the school board was given no say. The following bills were ordered paid: Young and Whlteman, $11; W. G. Watkins, Spring Brook Water Company, $15.

The bills of the Wllkes-Barre Record, Times-Leader and Raeder Lithographing were laid -on the table. Motion by Thomas, seconded by Williams, tfiat an order for $1.12 be drawn on the treasurer to defray the expenses of the county convention. Yesterday afternoon a horse belonging to Isaac E. Jones, the grocer, and driven by William Addis, took fright on Church street and ran away, badly Injury the driver and damaging the harness and wagon. The flower sale under the auspices of the Epwortb League opened this afternoon and will continue until Saturday evening Mrs. Charles Benjamin, an esteemed and respected resident of this place, died early yenterday morning, the result of a paralytic stroke. She had en joyed good health up until about 9 o'clock Sunday evening and at 12:30 she expired.

Mrs. Benjamin was 66 years of age and for twenty years she has been a resident of Parsons, during which time she hajs endeared In the memory and esteem of a larg circle of friends. Her sudden demise has proved a shock to many. She la survived by her husband and one son, Roy Benjamin; also two sisters, Al-mlra Botmon and Mrs, Rhoda tllrlcn. The funeral will be held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, and Interment will be In the City cemetery, MINER'S MILLS Arrangements are being ma.de by ths members of the Miner's Congregational church for the annual picnic of that congregation which will be held at Mountain Park July 23.

The intruder struck Dr.

Ashley In tha face and knocked him down and then suddenly disappeared. Mr. Williams was notified but on an investigation, found nothing missing. The burglar entered. the office by forcing open a rear door and was about the building looking for something of value whea Dr.

Ashley came upon the scene. The burglars are becoming daring and It Is about high time that some cf them were landed behind the prison bars. It Is only a few nights ago that F. R. Hendershot's and John Hauler's blacksmith shops were robbed of soma tools, and a warning was given In this column to the public to safeguard their business places.
