Holding 23 points in high cards and distribution, he doubled East's reopening bid early this year and now goes to eight hours a day of talk with the rest in news. By Bralnard Piatt Journal Herald Staff Writer WAVI, which has compiled an enviable list of firsts in the local radio field, launched what it calls news and conversation radio yesterday. Beginning at 6:30 a.m. each morning and extending to 9 a.m., Monday through Saturday, it will present the morning edition of the news. From 9 ajn. until noon, it will present conversation with Brad Clay, a new man, and persons wishing to call in and express themselves.

PETER LAVIS, who joined the station in January, will be talking from noon until 2 p.m., and Tom Mann, who started last June, will take over until 5 pjn. H. K. Crowl, station president, points out the daily programming will be wrapped up with what he calls the evening news. Crowl reports all three men are experienced commurvwsa-ers, experts in what he feels is a new field of broadcasting.

Displaced by this move is Gene Barry, who has been spinning records on the station from sign on to 10 a.m. and now moves over to 10 to 1 on WDAO-FM. WAYI HAD a big following for a time with what it called the Big Band Sound, and then i introduced sophisticated country music to the area. Jt launched lengthy conversation radio last June, ex-; tended this to six hours a day i in with the king, and a heart return forced declarer to ruff once more and establish a spade trick for West. South still had to lose a heart, and his contract went on the rocks.

When East leads the king of hearts at trick two, it is suggested that declarer discard a club from his hand instead of ruffing. Observe that he has to lose the ciub trick eventually, so that he surrenders nothing by talcing the sluff. He gains considerable timing, however, for East cannot continue hearts profitably. If he leads the ace next, for example, it establishes North's queen. If East Is permitted to hold the second heart trick, he is temporarily unable to press the attack.

If a club is returned, South can finesse the queen successfully, draw trumps in four pulls and then give West his diamond trick. South ruffs a heart return with the nine of spades, and he has 10 tricks five spades, three diamonds and two clubs. -r Today's show Number 207 will help your children learn about magnets. Today's OflJ trH 1 IIS card or two, the latter could be counted on to proceed if game was in the offing. North might have been better advised to bid two no trump instead of three diamonds to show the heart stopper. If South carries on to three no trump, there is no way that the defense can defeat that contract. West opened the deuce of hearts against four spades.

The four was played from dummy and East won the trick with the ten. East continued with the king and declarer ruffed in his hand. South began drawing trump; however, when East showed out on the third round, it suddenly dawned on the declarer that he and West were down to the same size in trumps. If he drew the remaining spade, the opposition might run several heart tricks when they regained the lead. South switched his attention to the diamond suit by playing the ace and another.
