Three More Drowning Tragedies By United Press International Indiana counted three more drowning deaths Tuesday, as water accidents continued to take a heavy toll. Thomas Smith, 18, Evansvffle, drowned in the Ohio River at Evansville when he stepped into deep water while wading with friends. Authorities said he couldn't swim. Charles J. Ryan, 21, Richmond, drowned while trying to swim'200 yards across a flooded quarry near M o n o n. A companion, Thomas Kidweli, 15, Earl Park, said Ryan apparently became exhausted and went down about 35 feet from shore. Workers at a nearby stone company recovered the body. Leonard Wheeler, 43, R.K. 1, Rugger, drowned Tuesday .night while swimming at Dugger Late during a family outing. Skin divers recovered the body about two hours later. Two County 4-H Events Announced The first Cass county 4-H Club activity leading to the annual 4-H Club fair will be held next week, according to the Cass Home Demonstration agent. The first event will be the junior demonstration contest to be held on Tuesday, June 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the 4-H Community Center. . Central & Soutb Indiana 5-DAY OUTLOOKi Temperatures will average 2 to 4 degrees below normal. Normal highs 83 to 87. Normal lows 62 to 66. Little day-to-day change. Precipitation will total one-fourth to one-half inch in scattered showers most likely Sunday or Monday. Members of both boys and girls 4-H clubs will participate in each contest, Mrs. Puett said. The junior demonstration contest is open to 4-H members younger than freshmen in high school. Each dub may send two entrants. Demonstrations are to be between five and eight minutes in length. The public speaking contest will consist of talks between five and seven minutes in length. Notes may be used. A maximum of 100 points may be earned with composition and delivery receiving equal consideration. Composition includes choice of material, 15 points; organization of material, 25 points; and use of language, 10 points. Delivery includes projection to audience, 15 points; fluency, 15 points; pronunciation and articulation, 10 points;] and voice control, 10 points. Speakdng' contest participants should have been in high school in the past year or be older than .high school age. One boy and one girl will be selected to go to the district. The senior demonstration contest will be held at the 4-H Community center at 9:30 a.m. on July 13.
