The strike of lamp chimney workers in the gas belt is assuming serions proportions. One hundred employes of the South Marion plant struck for higher wages, while more are expected to leave their work. Both this strike and that at the Thomas Evans plant are thought to have been caused by the deputations of Elwood strikers who have been making a tour of gas belt factories. In bo tit cases the men haye demanded 15 per cent, increase of wages. There are xi ow 700 chimney workers in the gas belt on a strike.

Julius Seigert, a teacher in the Lutheran school in this city, left home about ten weeks ago and joined Wallace's show. The family has learned that the son's body is buried in the potter's field at Washington, D. Young Seigert slept over night over a cage occupied by a tiger. During the night Seigert tn his sleep threw his leg over the side of the cage. The tiger bit him severely, mood poisozung de veloped and the boy died in a Wash ington hospital.

Columbia City, Ind, Sept. 13 Ever since the fee and salary law of 1891 county officers in this county have been claiming the per diem allowance for attending courts, in addition to their regular salaries. By recent de cisions of the supreme court it was made plain that the per diem did not lawfully belong to, them, and as a re sult the county treasury is benefited in the sum of $2,740. Examiner Sanders returned $443; ex Sheriff McNabb, $450; Sheriff Hull, $680, and Clerk War ing, $1,167.

13. Luther Morris, the old time saloon keeper who was burned out a week ago, is again preparing to open a saloon here. He will erect a handsome brick building on the site. The two year old boy of Dr. and Mrs. Bledsoe was fatally burned by a gasoline stove and Dr. Bledsoe and Mrs. Bledsoe were badly burned about the hands and face in extinguishing' the flames.
