OVERCOME BY HEAT R. Vaughn, of the tVitnington Handle Factory. R. A. Vaughn, manager and bookkeeper at the Withington handle factory, on East Front street, was overcome by the oppressive heat while in his pffice evening about 5 o'clock." Mr.

Vaughn lives on East State street above the Erie railroad and had ridden to and from his work on his wheel. At noon he was in a hurry to get to the office and overexerted himself so much'' that he became sick almost as soon as he reached the office. Being other wise ill it was too much for him and he rapidly crew worse until at the tim mentioned it was found nec essary to send for a physician. Dr. Clokey was summoned' and he brought Vaughn out of the spell, but he is still a very sick man and today is confined to his bed at his home.

Dr. Clokey fears no ser ions results and thinks that he will be able to be around again in a few days. 5 SOME FACTS About the Grain Yield of This Year, Indiana grain dealers, by corre spondence and to some extent by rersonal observation, have come to the conclusion that Indiana's wheat crop will not' exceed 17,000,000 to 18,000,000 bushels, The promise in February last, taking into consideration the extended acreage, in. dicated a yield of from 50,000,000 to 55,000,000 bushels. The best part of the present crop Is in central Indiana.

From Seymour, Shelbyville, Rushville and Richmond to Indianapolis the yield is good; also from Indianapolis to Vincennes and Evansville. To the north and northeast the crop is poor, and in greater part '6i north ern Indiana is almost nothing. A leading grain dealer says: "The price of our new crop will start in at seventy cents. and the millers will take every bushel they can get. No Indiana wheat will be allowed to go away from this state if our mil lers can prevent it.

The wheat buying season will be a. short one, because ot the great shortage in the yield. RURAL DELIVERY. Indiana Filed More Applications Than Any Other State. The eight special agents of the rural free delivery system of the postoffice department, which covers all the country west ot Ohio, met with Superintendent Frank M.

Dice in Indianapolis Monday and received their assignments. Mr. Dice's head quarters had been fixed at St. Louis, but a few days ago were changed to Indianapolis. i There are more applicants for the rural delivery from Indiana than any other state in the western division.

These number fifty four. Iowa is next with thirty applications. The demand for the service in Illinois is iignt. The service has been tried in all western states. Indiana has had her proportionate share of the appropriations made for the.

service, and the demand is far greater than will be granted. The appropriation for the service last year was $150,000, for this year $300,000. Howard Thompson, wife and son, of Huntington, Mrs. Maple, of Marion, were guests at the home of Andrew Wiley and wife Friday. Little Wiley to Huntington with the Thompson's where she delivered an oration at the Christian church, Sunday.

This place is in a German Baptist community, and it is hoped by the members of this church that Huntington will secure the next annual meeting. There are at least four hundred members in this township and all will be benefitted if Huntington procures this meet Thrashing machines began run ning last week. On the David Shutt farm west of here, thirty acres of wheat were thrashed and It yielded five hundred and thirty. five bushels. Across ne road on the Lewis Shutt farm, the same number of acres yielded five hun dred and fifty five bushels.

The grove near the Shutt ford is quite a good plena? ground. It is a cool place and plenty of good water near. People dme not only for picnicing purposes, but to see the suspension bridge which swings across the river at that place. The crowd that was picnicing there Sunday was: M. Carl, Columbus Harold, Joseph Sprowl and wives, ot "Warren.

Next Saturday evening there will be a social at the home of Christian Everhart, near Makin. OwenTSands and family, of Zanes ville, visited a few days with rela tives near here this week. William Everhart and family and Miss Lizzie Hiser, of Makin, attended the social here Saturday night.

David Stulbs and wife, and Mrs. John Goble have gone to BlufTton, to spend a few days 'visiting rela tives. A goodly number of the young people attended the Children's day exercises at Washington Center Sunday. John y7. Giltner and wife, of Mt.

Etna, and Miss Margarette Calvert, of Bell, Ohio, ralatives ot the J. F. visiting a few days with the latter. E. Goble and family spent last Sunday with hi3 brother in Whitley county it being hi3 brother's twenty first birthday.

H. Immell Is In receipt of a most 'interesting communication from Henry Haerly, manager of the Birch Brook camping club, at Michillinda, Mich. The schooner, Silver Foam, which the party had ordered for its use, did not arrive until three days after they got there and their principal amusement during those days was in stretching the 12,000 feet of. can vas fa their tents. He says that all ot the party are highly pleased with the place and that they have been doing some good fishing.

The weather this week started out admirably for them and this, the last, will be their banner week. Several of the party have entered into nego tiations for the purchase of four lots on the lake and in a short time the place will be known as the "Lime City The party will leave for home Friday, arriving here some time Saturday. Jacob Lahr's father and sister. of Union township, yisited with him Sunday. Mr. "Wilson, the liveryman from Warren, was here Wednesday business. The little child of Vincent "Welker Is seriously ill and without any hopes of recovery.

Quite a number of our people are expecting to attend tbe basket meeting at Clearcreek. Prof. Wm. Huston is visiting rel atives here this week. He will take charge of the schools at River this year.

Llartin iJryles is nursing a crippled hand as a result of the wind blowing a barn door, against him, knocking him off the bridge against the building. Samuel W. The ice cream social given by the Brethern church on laBt Saturday evening at the home of Herman Mackentifer was a Bert Smith, who is attending echoolat Valpariaso.Ind., wrote his parents that smallpox had broken out in the school and several had been exposed. Rev. Palmer on last Sunday morning preached to his people on the subject "Christ Healing the Sick." In the evening he took up the Sabbath school lesson for next Sabbath.
