We hear that Fraser's Battalion of Highlanders is near compleated, and the other in great Forwardnefs. The two Battalions to be raiscd in the Highlands are to be in the Highland both and Men. The Terrible Private, Capt. Death, is taxen by a French Privateer of twenty-four Guns, and carried into Lt.

Malo's, after an Engagement of three Hours, in the Chops of the Channel, in which the Terrible was much mattered her Prize also, a Martinico Man, was taken and carried into the said Port with her, by which Prize flie was greatly wcakened having several Hands on board her. The Rackow, from Caven for Rochelle js taken by the Monmouth Man of War, and brought into Ply-mouth. The Dekan Privateer, Capt. She hath a iarge Quantity of Elephant's Teetk, Gold Dust, and Indigo on board, and is worth at least There was a Snowin Company much richer, which got clear olF. There are Leiters in Town which sey, that Admiral Galissoniere hasten'd bis own Death, to prevent a Dif-grace which might have happened to bim had he lived. A Dutch Hoy, from Ireland for Leghorn, has been taken by a French Privateer, and carried into Marseilles. The Mary-Anne, Deas, from Malaga, is taken and carried into France. We are glad to assure our Readers, that the Government have taken the great Scarcity of Wheat Corn into their serioug Consideration.

This Grievance is most certainly occasion'd by the Distillers working up such vast Quantities of (hat most precious Grain intended by a kind Providence for the Staff of Life) into GIN, a most pernicious and destructive Liquor, which has dettroy'd more Lives than Pestilence, Fire, and Sword. But we are inform'd, that for the Time to come, every Distiller is to pay 40 1. for every Bufhd of Wheat so work'd up, and 20 1. to the Informer. Now as it is every good Man's Duty and Interest to put a Stop to distilling Wheat in the Manner it has long been done, it is hoped the Word Informer, will not be treated with that Infamy and Contempt as in too many Cafes it has been, and made usc of to deter Men from doing what is every one's Duty But in this Cafe the Good ofthe whole Nation is concern'd.

To suppress this intolerable Grievance is for tbe Good of the Whole, as it will prevent the pernicious Use of Wheat, i. e. the converting the Suftenance and Support of Life into Poison and Poverty. The Legiflature will do their Duty, and it is incumbent on every good Subject to enforce the Laws by thern made, or all rnust very soon be over with us. Portsmouth, Jan.
