Mrs. Minnich was a patient sufferer from cancerous tumor which has seriously afflicted her more, than a year past Previous to one year ago last October she had not needed the attentions of a physician for thirty years, but by constant waiting upon Miss Lillian who MN and Mrs. Minnich took to raise, she. contracted the dls ease which; resulted In the growth 1 which was finally the cause of i her death; Mrs. Elizabeth Minnich was a daughter of Mr.

and Mrs Isaac Kltt She was born near Luther and there 7 grew to womanhood. January 14, '1869, sheSras united in marriage to John Minnich. Mr. and Mrs. Minnich then moved to Roanoke and lived there three years.

They then return ed to this city and have since resided here. No children were born to the anion but besides her husband five sisters mourn her death. They are Mrs. tt W. StuUs.

Mrs. Fred Miller, Mrs. Simon Bonebrake and Mrs. J. I Van Camp all of this city, and Mrs.

David Miner of Black Rock, Ark. Miss Lillian Morrison has for years made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Minnich. She has been afflicted with tuberculosis several years and is now In a serious condition.

While she baa been living at the Minnich home aha has been treated as a member of the family, with all the tenderness of i Mrs. Mlnnlch's own child. Mrs. Minnich was an active member of the Methodist church and an ardent worker In the various societies of the church. She was a good neighbor and well loved by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at the residence on Guilford street at 1 Rev. J. A JBeatiy will officiate. Interment will be at Mt Hope cemetery. 'f 'Mrs.

WARIlEn'S TEAM DEFEATS POmOTS In the third game of the season the Warren high school forced the Portland high school foot ball team to go down in defeat in the game at Bluff ton Saturday. The first game played by the'two teams was played in Portland and resulted in a tie game with neither team scoring.

The second game was played at Warren and resulted In the same kind of a credit to both teams. The third game was played in Bluffton on neutral territory and Warren outplayed Portland ending with a score of 11 to 6. Fry Saturday evening the life of Frank Cobb was saved after the young man's attempt to commit suicide. As waa stated in Saturday evening's paper the young man bad attempted suicide by the poison route about 3:30 in the afternoon while visiting at the home, of his mother, Mrs. Fosnaugh, on Byron street The boy is the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. B.

M. Cobb and has. at tracted considerable attention by his peculiar conduct on several occasions. Some of his friends claim he had been despondent and attribute bis illness to a desperate attempt to end his life. The young man will give no reason for taking the poison but it is known that he took enough to cause death had not the physician arrived in time to pump out the poison before ifhad taken effect As wen as can be learn ed the victim took morphine.

Hubartt today, The case is a peculiar one and although the defendants defaulted'it is necessary to proceed with the trial. The plaintiff and his wife seraraled Bome time ago and the wife secured' divorce and judgment for about $400 alimony. Shortly after they made some kind of an agreement concerning the payment of the alimony but before the matter was settled the woman died. Recently the plaintiff In the case' has come in possession of some real estate and the records of the court show the Judgment for the alimony unpaid. The suit is to cancel this Judgment to give clear title to the real estate.

The allegations are cruel and Inhuman treatment It Is stated that the defendant called the plaintiff bad names in the presence of the two children, ages one and four years. Wants His Money. William Sheets, the' famous slot machine man captured in Wells county a few weeks ago, came into circuit court this morning and asked for the money that was found in the machines destroyed by Sheriff Ma honey. He claimed the money he longs to him and insisted that it be turned over to him. The court sustained the motion 'of Sheet's attorneys and ordered the money paid with the exception of fl retained for, sheriff's fees. Case Dismissed The case of Samuel Scott vs.

Harvey Scott was dismissed in court this morning, the cost to be paid by the defendant case was one where the owner of a farm asked a restraining order to be Issued against the tenant to prevent him from moving property from the farm. 1 Kslley Molds His Wei. Frank Kelley appeared in court this morning and his attorneys made a motion to quash the affidavit against him but the court thought otherwise and ordered the trial held. The date of the trial was then changed from Tues day to Thursday of this Took Immediate. Appeal.

Defendant in the case of Joe Klrby vs. 'C. E. WIntrode refused to give further pleadings and the plaintiff was given judgment for $360. An appeal to the appellate court was at once taken and the appeal bond was fixed at $500.

Want New Trial. The defendants in the case of W. H. Scheiber have asked the court to grant a new trial. At the former hearing Judgement was given the plaintiff.

church have become interested in the young man's welfare and are interceding in his behalf to keep him from going to the prison. When in conference with the members of the church Sunday the prisoner stated that he would like to see his sick mother who Is thought to be dying. He asked the church people to help him see his mother and today Rev. J. A.

Beatty and Bruce Carnahan began working to have the boy saved from being taken to prison. The two men first applied to Sheriff Mahoney and asked him not to take Satterth watte to the prison today as was planned last week. Sheriff Mahoney complied, with the request and Bruce Carnahan immediately left for Indianapolis io.have. a conference with Governor Hanly and try to get a pardon for young, gatterthwaite. If the pardon is "secured from the governor the young man will be released and placed in better, surroundings.

MISS DRUMM0ND TO LEAVE HOSPITAL 1 (.: Miss Hazel Drummond who has been sick the last three weeks with typhoid fever Is la a much Improved condition and will be able to leave the Hope hospital today or Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. H. B.

Drummond of this city visited Miss. Drummond at the hospital Sunday and found her almost recovered from her sickness. Miss Hazel was at first the Oxford college hospital where she remained two weeks before coming to the Hope hospital a week ago. Upon leaving the Hope hospital she will probably visit her relatives in this city in order to fully regain her health before returning to her studies at Western college in Oxford. Ohio! CHIP OF ICE MAKES WOUND ABOVE EYE Claude Haulderman, while putting ice In the ice box at the Richelieu restaurant this morning at 8, received cut above his left eye by a cake of Ice falling back.

Albert Blackburn, the proprietor, and Claude were working together when Mr. Blackburn's foot slipped letting the weight of the falling cake strike then waiter. Dr. Hicks dressed the Injury. A few stitches were required.

Miss Margaret Sample of Boyd park is visiting Miss Hazel Robinson and will return home this evening. GOSHEN TO BE HERE NEXT SATURDAY The Goshen high school foot hall team has been scheduled to play the local team at the fair grounds in this city next Saturday. Coach L. C. Ward telephoned the Goshen manager Sunday morning and secured the game which will be another interesting con test played upon the local gridiron.

On account of the shortness of days and the darkness interfering with the playing In the latter part of the games, Saturday's game will be called at 2:30 instead of 3. Although the Warsaw high school team defeated the Goshen high school by a score of 39 to 0 at the flrstof this I season, the Goshen team has been re organized since then and is now a strong At Wabash Saturday afternoon Goshen was the victor in a game with the Wabash high' school team, the score being 22 to 5. Several Huntington foot ball players, together with Coach Ward, witnessed the game. Concerning the Wabash high school team and Its games for the remainder of the season the Wabash Times Star says: But two more games of foot ball remain to be played this year by the local team. On next Saturday the team will play the Anderson team at An derson.

The Anderson team is consid ered a strong one and the game will undoubtedly be a bard one. On Thanksgiving day the7 biggest game of the season will be played at Huntington unless something unforeseen at this time The Huntington team Is boasting its strength to win from Wabash this season. The local team is rapidly preparing for the big game, the team will know that it has been In foot ball game. HOMER GRAY IS IN COLUMBIA CITY Homer Gray left this city a few weeks ago and for some time his whereabouts were unknown but he has been finally located in Columbia City. Mr.

Gray left a wife and several children on account of family troubles. The family live near Hannah street and it Is said that Mr. Gray had a hard time making a living 'for the family. He Is a hard working man but could not keep his family. He was out of work part of the time and Mrs.

Gray took in washing. He became tired of living this way and left the home about one o'clock one night nearly three weeks ago. He has not returned since then but word from Columbia City Is that he is there. INFECTED TOOTH POISONS WOMAN Mrs. Rellley Dungan of South Jefferson street is suffering from a badly poisoned mouth as the result of arsenic poisoning.

The drug was used to kill the nerve In a tooth which was being treated by the dentist. In some way the seal broke and the poison substance was liberated in the the lady's mouth. Mrs. Dungan is' in a serious condition and is under the care of a physician who had to lance the poisoned partsr Dr. O.

AID OF KNIFE Young Woman Says Hec Life Was Threaterei A STRANGE OCCURRENCE While Looking After His Own Safety the Girl Escapes After Being Badly Frightened. It has been learned that the woman in the 8 1 range occurrence on the South Side one evening last week is a student of the Business University and she has related her story of why she was begging so hard to be released from the big man when Leslie Ryan and George Morris were attract ed by her pleadings. The story as given by the girl is that she was on her way home from working at 'the Business University and when at the Junction of Charles and William streets, a large man with his hat pulled down over his eyes came up to her and flourishing a big knife told her to accompany him and not to make an alarm or he would stab her. The girl was so badly frightened that she obeyed.

He carried the knife his band and commanded her to accompany him. They had walked down William street to Lafontalne when Mr. Ryan and Mr. Norris heard her begging to be released. As soon as the strange man saw he was being observed he commanded the girl to go into the alley and remain there while he west to the end of the alley and made threats to the two men watching the couple.

While the stranger was talking to the two men telling them to move on the girl darted out of the alley and reached her rooms in safety but almost overcome by fright and exhaustion. The next day the young lady pointed out the man to several of her friends as he walked on the street but none who has Been him knows his name. The young lady Is Inexperienced with, the customs of the bad elements of society and is a stranger In the city. She has conducted herself in a ladylike manner since being in the city and it is believed she has told the true story. The matter Is being investigated and if the young lady sees the man again it will take but a short time until he will be in custody.

It was at first thought advisable to keep the matter a secret but give warning to the many other innocent girls that go home from work late at night the matter is given publicity. PECULIAR LAW SUIT IN WHITLEY COUNTY A number of taxpayers of Washington township, Whitley county, headed by ex Treasurer John Cox.have begun a novel suit, in the, circuit court here. William Hauptmeyer personally contracted with the Nickel Plate railroad to work out its 'Void tax and then, as trustee, proceded to apportion It to the several road districts In his township Instead of working It out in the road 'district through which the rail road The residents of this dis trict have brought proceedings against Mr, Hauptmeyer to have him enjoin from working out any, of the railroad tax In any other district The case will be interesting from the fact that Mr. Hauptmeyer Is both trustee and WILL SETTLE THE WARREN CONTROVERSY The county commissioners will meet in extra session Wednesday to settle the controversy about annexing certain lands to the town of Warren. The commissioners are in possession of a petition to annex the property on the north side of the town and the plat Includes some real estate that the owners do not want within the corporation.

A bitter fight will be put up on both sides and it Is expected a large number of Interested parties will be present when the matter Is called Wednesday morning. Balr, timber cutter for W. T.
