(Harrington Studio) A City Park Is A Family Affair From band concerts to family reunions, a city park is the people who use it. For some families, it means cooking hamburgers over a wood fire. For others, it is an early morning tennis game. To the kids, it's Little League baseball. PARKS ARE big business. Logansport has some of the finest parks in the area. Persons from Kokomo, Wabash, Huntington anc Marion come here regularly, according to Park Superintenden! Jesse Riddleberger. Why? There are two reasons. The first is Riddleberger's able care, and the second is the willingness of Logansporl's residents to provide adequate funds foi their improvements. Riddleberger and a staff ol three men work the year rounc to maintain the equipment. This past year, as they do every year, they painted and repaired • 365 park benches, 40 charcoal burners, 30 baby swings, 26 hobby horse swings, 30 board seat swings, 5 merry-go-rounds and Three years, 7 months and 30 days elapsed between Pearl Har< bor and explosion of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Jap- Why invest in a test? The parks department's budget this year amounted lo $49,851. Wages totaled $34,500. The department hires 30 to 35 extra em- ployes during the summer. Improvements cost about 54,000; maintenance-is about $8,000; and supplies about $3,000, according to Controller Laura Glasson. Nearly $40,000 is a lol of money, yel, as Mayor Otto Neumann poinled out, hundreds of persons use the parks each week during the summer. There were 643 reservations for tables last year — 218 at Dykeman, 154 at Riverside, 160 at Spencer and 111 at Fairview. In the summer recreation program 1,000 children enrolled in ihe arts and crafts, 1,000 for swimming lessons, 5,000 for baseball, 1,000 for tennis, 3,500 for 'he gyms and playgrounds and 700 for the bicycle races and fishing derby. Since some children enrolled in more than one activity, these figures do not represent a total number of participants. THE CITY has received many compliments on its parks. Some come from local residents who HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET WELL? No one can tell exactly how long it will take a peach to ripen, nor can a Chiropractor say with any degree of certainty how long il will take to get well. The healing process, like the growing of corn, is an effort of Nature. The Chiropractor by an adjustment opens, the door which was closed against the healing process, and then Nature gets to work. The lime taken de- pends upon the amount of repairing that has to be done. The forces within your own body necessarily govern the process of getting well. If you take reasonable care of your spine while under Chiropractic care, you will get well quicker. You should avoid heavy lifting, straining or twisting, and sudden or sharp body movements to preserve and increase the benefit you may have received from the adjustment. X-Ray and Ncurocalomctcr • Service 4455 appreciate the facilities available. Others come from persons in the :a who prefer Logansporl's parks to their own. Several tourists each sumine; 1 think enough of them to write congratulatory letters to the mayor. But Riddlebergei's favorite compliment was ruefUly given by a man from Anderson. The man was a playground equipment salesman. After inspecting all 14 parks here, he . c aid there was more playground equipment in Riverside and Tower parks along than there was in all the Anderson parks put together. Name 1 .. *. Puoiw. .Oltr.
