WORKED BY BUNCO STEERERS AND TRAVELLING SPRINTERS. The Oosllnss Will lMi-k Their Pin-reutlicra -Kearney the Rendezvous of harpcrs Who AVork Their l'rtends Tor ltl(j Money. The III" n. at the time ban J. Rots was giving his hippodrome here aud issuing challenges, gave an expose of the manner in which these travelling sprinters take in the unwary aud ten-derfeet.

The II en man also said that the sprinters were laying for Kearney boodle and were going to get some of it. They han got. A few weeks ago Me-(finty was taken in to the tune of $500. Some of his Kearney friends put him "onto a soft snap'', down at some little town. It was soft and he climbed right iiver into the soup.

Another man, well known to the II I'll man, was swindled out of M00 by a sprinter and Kearney confidence sharks in the same manner. Lastly several fellows backed Adair for $50 and he and Mathews made a divvy and scooped in the stakes. rsow the question is, now longare the respectable people of this city go ing to allow this city to become the rende7.vons for such bunco steerersV any citv they would be run in for plying confidence games. in a lew days inis paper may oe auie i give names, dates, amounts swin dled, etc. A WRONG IDEA.

la Only the Clerks We Seek to lteneflt. Editor Ilcn I see au article in the Enterprise of Sunday reading as fol lows "I see by the Kearnev papers that all the business houses in the city will close at 8 p. save on Saturday, excepting one line. I gladly note that those Charons who piv iiieir neianoub traffic on the "Styx," also their twin monstrosities, who can only flourish in saloon atmosphere, are not regarded by the press as "business houses of Kearney." Citizen." We see no harm in any of our stores remaining open ufter 8 o'clock except that it works the clerks too many hours. They go to work at 0:30 a.

in. and stay in the stores until 10 and 11 p. m. This makes slaves of them instead of men. If the proprietors would stay In the stores themselves or hire two sets of clerks like the saloons do, there would be no kicking about night work.

lhe bar-tender who stays up uniu at night does not commence his work until noon. So vou see the saldons are more merciful to their help than the legitimate tradesmen. Citizen" slioum not mix saioons in this clnsinir business. One thing at a time. If he wants them closed, let him commence a move in that direction and I for one will do all I cau to neip him.

We can accomplish somethings, and let us do them and soon all the rest will follow. Yours in friendship, "The Clkkks' Fiukxd." A NEW COMPANY.
